I just about spilled my scalding hot coffee when I read this outrageous news yesterday morning…
The Tampa Bay Times reports that Governor Rick Scott is going to convene an anti-gun task force to gut Florida’s self-defense laws.
You and I should be deeply concerned. This isn’t an idle threat.
All anti-gunners across the country have their eyes set on Tallahassee, hoping to politicize the tragedy of Treyvon Martin enough to enact sweeping new gun controls.
It was Rahm Emmanuel who once said “you never want a serious crisis to go to waste.”
Apparently Governor Scott agrees with Rahm, because in the wake of a tragedy, that’s exactly what is happening in Florida.
The “stand your ground law” is front and center for the radicals who want to strip your self-defense rights.
This law provides that one has no duty to retreat and has the right to stand his or her ground to prevent great bodily harm, death, or the commission of a forcible felony.
It has been crucial in preventing malicious arrest and prosecution of victims who are forced to exercise their rights to self-defense.
It does NOT provide a defense to the aggressor in a crime, nor does it allow a victim to pursue an attacker. That is why it is called the “stand your ground” law.
But that doesn’t mean anything to Governor Scott and the anti-gunners who are now hell-bent on repealing this good law based on the anecdotal evidence of one interpretation of events in Florida.
Regardless of how this case pans out — your self-defense rights should not pay the price.
Imagine having to beg your attacker for an opportunity to retreat to avoid going to jail or being assaulted — or worse, killed.
Mark my words — if this task force is allowed to go forward, they will not only recommend gutting this law; they will work to turn back all of the pro-gun advancements and initiatives in Florida.
Here is what you can do to help:
Call Governor Scott at (850) 488-7146. Tell him to ditch this so-called “task force” now. Demand that he not cave to senseless mob rule by stripping your self-defense rights.
