A QUESTION OF SEMANTICS

In the last Presidential debate there was an attempt to have the President clarify when he knew that the assassination of Ambassador Stevens was indeed a result of a terrorist attack.    Unfortunately, an effort to have Obama explain his answer that the day after, he had declared the incident as “an act of terror” was inappropriately stopped by the moderator Candy Crowley.

I have just heard, again, Obama’s full statement of that day.    The most logical interpretation would be that it was a generic statement “acts of terror” that was not specifically referring to Benghazi.    An act of terror defines any incident that will terrify you.   A rear end accident, a firecracker that will surprise you, etc, are acts of terror.    A terrorist attack is a purposely planned attack by terrorists in order to cause you harm.

Semantics aside, it seems that the White House’s latest effort to explain what looks like at the least proof of an incompetent Government, and at worse decisions made for political reasons over our security and a subsequent cover-up, is that they knew from the first days the reason for the attack, and did not tell the public in order to not “misinform” us until they were 100% sure.    The facts are that many days after the event, what we heard was a consistent explanation that a “mob” incited by an obscure video, was the catalyst for an armed group to act.    This mantra was repeated by everyone from the White House’s spokesperson, the Secretary of State, the UN Ambassador, and our President.    Are we to believe now that our leaders were purposely using misinformation in order not to misinform?    And if President Obama knew that four Americans had been killed by terrorists, why did he not place politics aside and stay in Washington with his Security Council, instead of going to Las Vegas?

We have not received, and deserve, appropriate answers.    We do hope that this coming Monday in the last presidential debate some will be given.    Our Ambassador and 3 other brave Americans have been killed; this is not the time to play with words and/or question semantics.    It is a time for a leadership that up to now has been totally lacking.
