Criminal Negligence, Lies and Cover up by the Obama Administration in Libya

benghazi-COVERUPOn September 11, 2012 at approximately 9:45 PM about 120 terrorists from Ansar-al-Shariah attacked our Consulate in Benghazi with rocket-propelled grenades, mortars and other weapons killing Ambassador Stevens, Tyrone Woods and Glen Doherty, former Navy SEALS, who were working for the CIA, and Sean Smith, computer specialist. Approximately 30 brave men resisted the terrorist attack for about seven hours while desperately requesting help that never came. President Obama could have saved them by ordering our air force stationed in a U.S. base in Sicily to respond to the attack. Our airplanes would have arrived in less than an hour.

In one of the worst incidents in history, our government’s failure to protect our diplomats abroad resulted in the death of four Americans. The United States Department of State withdrew U.S. security personnel from Libya instead of sending additional soldiers. This act of criminal neglect was done in spite of repeated warnings from our embassy that the anarchic Libyan government was not able to protect our diplomats.

On October 1, 2012 Eric Nordstrom, the embassy’s former security chief, wrote an e-mail stating that there were 230 security incidents in Libya June 2011 and July 2012. Nordstrom’s list of serious incidents included near-daily bombings and shootings by Islamic terrorists and militias. On June 6, 2012 Islamic terrorists detonated an improvised explosive device blew a hole in the wall of the U.S. Consulate in Benghazi.

Our U.S. ambassador Chris Stevens wrote in his diary that he was fearful that al Qaeda was going to kill him. His repeated requests from more security were denied by the Department of State. He protested when the Department of State withdrew a Special Security Team of 16 U.S. special forces out of Tripoli in August 2012. This team was also training Libyan security forces which could have been infiltrated by terrorists as it frequently happens in Afghanistan.

On September 11, 2012 at approximately 9:45 PM about 120 terrorists from Ansar-al-Shariah attacked our Consulate in Benghazi with rocket-propelled grenades, mortars and other weapons killing Ambassador Stevens, Tyrone Woods and Glen Doherty, former Navy SEALS, who were working for the CIA, and Sean Smith, computer specialist. Approximately 30 brave men resisted the terrorist attack for about seven hours while desperately requesting help that never came. President Obama could have saved them by ordering our air force stationed in a U.S. base in Sicily to respond to the attack. Our airplanes would have arrived in less than an hour.

We now know that General Carter Ham, commander of the United States African Command, wanted to sent help and put a rapid response team together and notified the Pentagon that they were ready to go. There were several F-18 fighter aircrafts at our air force base in Sigonella, Sicily 480 miles away. Other nearby bases included Aviano and Souda Bay.  An armed drone was circling overhead and did nothing. One of our men was on the roof of the annex manning a heavy machine gun. He had a laser on the target of the mortars of the terrorists who were firing on our brave people and repeatedly requested support from Specter AC-130 gunships, which are commonly used by the US Special Operation forces to provide support to teams on the ground involved in intense firefights. Fox News has also learned that two separate Tier One Special operation forces were told to wait, among them Delta Force operators.

General Ham was ordered to do nothing. He went ahead and planned to send military assistance disregarding the order that he was given. The Pentagon finding out what he was about to do, removed General Ham from his post, and his second- in- command assumed control and no help was given.

President Barack Obama, Secretary of Defense Leon Panetta, Director of National Security Tom Donilon, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Martin Dempsey and other officials watched the entire attack from the safety of the White House as two drones flew over our consulate sending images of the attack. It was very sad that our men resisted for seven hours and there was more than sufficient time to rescue them and nothing was done.

I worked with retired CIA officer Gary Berntsen in Miami assisting Mitt Romney in the final days of the presidential campaign. Gary presently serves as the Florida director of Concerned Veterans of America. This brave patriot commanded a CIA counter terrorism mission targeting Osama bin Laden in Afghanistan. During his long career in the CIA he served in Latin America, the Middle East and in Africa. Gary Berntsen is convinced that our people in Benghazi could have been saved since help was available nearby. He stated”you find a way to make this happen. There isn´t a plan for every single engagement. Sometimes you have to be able to make adjustments. They made zero adjustment in this. They stood and they watched and our people died.”

The president and others acted as cowards and were criminal negligent in refusing military assistance to our people in Benghazi. How can you sleep peacefully at the White House after letting our people die when you could have given the order to save them Mr. President?

Why did Obama let our ambassador and the others die? For one thing Obama was fearful that if he had sent our fighter aircrafts from Sicily, one or more of them could have been shot down since it was suspected that the terrorist had surface-to-air missiles. Obama did not want an incident, like the one in Somalia several years ago, when President Bill Clinton ordered rescue helicopters to help trapped soldiers and some were shot down. The nation was shocked seeing our dead pilots being dragged down through the streets of Mogadishu by terrorists. Obama let our people die because he did not want any incidents to spoil his reelection campaign. Another reason was the fact that the incident in Benghazi contradicted the president´s narrative on the campaign that after the death of Osama bin Laden, Obama had defeated Al Qaeda. Shame on you Mr. President! Unfortunately, Al Qaeda is alive and getting stronger in North Africa and other parts of the world.

There may have been another important reason for Obama denying help to our brave people in Benghazi. Doug Hagmann of the Canadian Free Press, James Robbins of the Washington Times, and Aaron Klein of WND explained that the   Obama administration was engaged in a massive gun running operation which included heavy weapons from Libya to Syria. Russia opposed this operation and so informed the president.

The New York Times reported on December 5, 2012 that the Obama administration had secretly given his blessing to arms shipments to Libyan rebels from Qatar last year, but American officials later were alarmed at evidence grew that Qatar was turning some of the weapons over to Islamic militants. It is uncertain whether some of these weapons provided by Qatar were used to kill our Americans at the United States Consulate in Benghazi, Libya. But imagine if this was true, and the information that some those weapons had been used to kill our people at Benghazi had come to light prior to Election Day 2012. It is obvious why Obama engaged in a massive cover-up and lied again and again to the nation.

The article written by three New York Times reporters explained that the Obama administration was clearly worried the about the consequences of its hidden hand in helping arm Libya militants. The United States, which had only small numbers of CIA officers in Libya, during the tumult of rebellion, provided little oversight of the arms shipments. The White House had received reports that some of these weapons were going to Islamic militant terrorists groups. These terrorists were more “antidemocratic, more hard-line, closer to an extreme version of Islam than the main rebel alliance in Libya”. The article explained that some weapons had been moved from Libya to militants with ties Al Qaeda in Mali, where radical jihadi terrorists had established Shariah law in the northern part of that country. All of this demonstrates the failure of the Obama administration in Libya and all other parts of the Middle East.

Obama had ordered our ambassador to send surface-to-air missiles and other weapons to the rebels fighting in Syria trying to overthrow the bloody dictator that rules over that unfortunate nation. In fact our ambassador had met with a diplomat from Turkey just a few hours before he was killed to discuss the weapons that were being sent to that country. A ship with several tons of weapons had just left to Turkey. Obama did not want the American people to know that he was involved in a gun running operation particularly less than a month before the presidential election. Mr. President you are unfit to be our commander- in- chief!

At the time Obama was too busy campaigning and he was not receiving most of the intelligence briefings. Obama was not paying attention to the situation in Libya and neither was Hillary Clinton at the State Department. After the death of our people in Benghazi, President Obama campaigned in Las Vegas and returned to the capital for another fundraising event.

President Barack Obama, Vice President Joe Biden and others blamed the intelligence community for their lack of action. However, CIA director David Petraeus issued the following statement: “no one at any level in the CIA told anybody not to help those in need, claims to the contrary are simply inaccurate”. The CIA director did not want the Obama administration to blame the CIA for the president´s refusal to provide assistance in Benghazi. That statement may have cost him his job. The Obama administration had known for a very long time that the CIA director was engaged in an extramarital affair. He had been investigated by the FBI. However, not wanting to have a scandal prior to the election, President Obama did not act on this information. Three days after his reelection, David Patraeus resigned. Later he testified in Congress behind closed doors. This action only raised more questions. The Liar-in-chief Obama is still stonewalling and hoping that the truth can be suppressed. As usual, the mainstream press is cooperating while Obama and others continued to lie.

Vice President Joe Biden continued to deceive the American people when he stated during the vice presidential debate that the intelligence community told them it had been a spontaneous attack in Benghazi. Barack Obama did the same thing during the second presidential debate on October 16, 2012. When Mitt Romney pointed out that the president did not tell the truth about Benghazi, the president lied and was supported by moderator Candy Crowley of CNN. Crowley also lied and violated policy since presidential debates moderators are prohibited from siding with any candidate during presidential debates. CNN not only supported Obama, but also hired Communist Van Jones as a political analyst even though he had been fired from the White House as Czar of Green Energy. This shows the great danger that our country is in when a major television network hires such a person, who is not even a journalist, but instead is a radical Communist who hates our nation.

Some think the Benghazi incident could be another Watergate. One major difference is that in Watergate no one died.

In order to protect himself, Obama sent his United Nations ambassador Susan Rice to lie on five television networks on a Sunday stating that the attack in Libya had been a spontaneous attack to an anti-Muslim movie trailer done in California. The Libyan government said from the beginning that it was a pre-planned attack and our intelligence agencies agreed. Nevertheless, the White House ordered a failed cover up to protect the enormous criminal negligence and incompetence of his administration for the preventable death of our officials in Libya. Ambassador Susan Rice lost her opportunity to become secretary of State since many important Republican senators stated that they would not support her nomination due to her lying to the nation. We now know that Susan Rice also knew the true story of Benghazi from the very beginning but agreed to lie for Obama. She not only deserves not to be appointed to the State Department, but she should be fired from the United Nations for deliberately being untruthful to the nation.

Obama himself for several days kept on being deceitful to the nation repeating the incorrect story that the attacked on Benghazi was due to a spontaneous attack as a result to a video. When the cover up could no longer be sustained, Obama had to admit that it had been a deliberate planned attack that had nothing to do with a video. President Barack Obama and Secretary Hillary Clinton promised the nation to investigate this shameful incident in Libya. Secretary Clinton stated that she was responsible for what had happened in Libya. She also stated that the “fog of war” and mixed intelligence was responsible for the lack of action and for the misinformation given to the media. This was an absolute lie since Clinton knew exactly what had happened in Libya from day one. I am certain that if Hillary Clinton decides to run for president in 2016 this incident could hurt her chances to become president. Of course, I assume that future elections will be clean and transparent, unlike the 2012 presidential election where massive fraud took place.

The chairman of the House of Representatives Oversight and Government Reform Committee Darrell Issa, Republican from California, began an investigation and his committee held hearings. Congressman Issa said in a statement that an email indicated: “a clear disconnect between what security officials on the ground felt they needed and what officials in Washington would approve.” Issa was very concerned that: “Reports that, senior State Department officials told security personnel in Libya not to even make certain security requests, are especially troubling. It is important to determine if the State Department is taking appropriate steps to address systemic deficiencies.”

Governor Mitt Romney also criticized president Obama for first calling the attack a spontaneous reaction to an anti-Islamic video on the Internet before admitting that it was a terrorist attack. The United States Senate is also conducting hearings on Libya. The Obama administration is trying very hard to cover up his lack of resolve and failure to provide assistance to our people in Libya. After a thorough and complete congressional investigation, it will be quite clear that Barack Obama has failed in the most important task of any president, which is to protect our national security.

After months of delay an independent panel led by retired Ambassador Thomas Pickering and former Joint Chiefs of Staff Chairman, Admiral Mike Mullen, issued a report on December 18, 2012 on the United States Consulate attack in Libya. The investigation concluded that there were systematic management and leadership failures at the State Department that led to grossly inadequate security at the mission in Benghazi. The report singled out the Bureau of Diplomatic Security and the Bureau of Near East Affairs for criticism, saying there appeared to be a lack of cooperation and confusion over protection at the mission in Benghazi, a city in eastern Libya that was relatively lawless after the revolution that toppled Libyan strongman Moammar Gadhafi.

Despite those failures, the accountability review board determined that no individual or officials ignored or violated their duties and recommended no disciplinary action now. But it also said poor performance by senior managers should be grounds for disciplinary recommendations in the future. This investigation was supposed to assign blame for those officials that failed to provide security to our consulate in Benghazi. Obviously, this was not done and it was a failure of this report.

However, even though the report did not single out any names of those most responsible at the State Department for the failure to provide security at our consulate, it led to the welcomed resignation of some officials. It was reported on December 19, 2012 that Eric Boswell, assistant secretary of State for Diplomatic Security,  Charlene Lamb, assistant secretary for embassy security, and a third unidentified official from the Bureau of Near East (Middle East)  Affairs stepped down under pressure. Again, Barack Obama, as in the case of the director of the CIA, waited over a month after the presidential election to force these three officials to quit when he knew, as well as Hillary Clinton, that these officials were responsible. Of course, Obama and Clinton were the most responsible for the debacle at Benghazi and so far they have escaped punishment.

The report, of course, did not blame Secretary Hillary Clinton or President Barack Obama for their shameful conduct. The report also absolved the military from any blame. It stated that there was simply not enough time for US Armed Forces to provide help. This was also incorrect since there was sufficient time to provide assistance. In conclusion this report was another disgraceful cover up.

The report ignited an enormous amount of criticism in Congress. United States Senator Marco Rubio, Republican from Florida, who serves on both the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence and the Senate Foreign Relations Committee  stated following on December 20, 2012:

“The independent report on the September 11 attacks on our mission facility and annex in Benghazi confirms what we have known to be true: that Ambassador. Stevens and the other Americans who lost their lives in the attacks could have been saved by better protection, a swifter military response and more attentive leadership from Washington… This is evidence of a flawed process to access and provide security for our diplomats. Such oversight failure and neglect is unacceptable. The men and women who represent our nation have the right to expect that our government is taking every possible measure to ensure their safety, and it is now clear that a leadership failure at the State Department led to grossly inadequate protection for our diplomats in Benghazi.”

United States Senator John Barrasso, Republican from Wyoming, stated: “My impression is the State Department clearly failed the Boy Scout motto of be prepared.” House Intelligence Committee Chairman Mike Rogers said the report lay bare “the massive failure of the State Department at all levels, including senior leadership, to take action to protect our government employees abroad.” He also stated that he was dissatisfied with the lack of progress in finding the Benghazi attackers.
