FLASHBACK: Kennedy Said What? America Won’t Be Inundated with Immigrants from ‘Deprived Nations of Africa and Asia’

How Ted Kennedy Was Left in a Confused State After Car Crashed From Bridge

There’s a literal shit storm brewing in Washington D.C. after reported comments from President Trump saying he doesn’t want the United States to absorb too many immigrants from “shithole countries” like Haiti and Africa. Democrats are reeling and are now boasting that they were right all along: Trump is a racist.

But the Left is plagued with short-term memories, because the late Ted Kennedy once said something very similar. Drudge Report linked to a 2015 Breitbart article centered on Kennedy’s terrible 50-year legacy of “ruinous immigration law.” But there’s one particular passage that stands out. It’s what Kennedy said back in 1965 about the Immigration and Nationality Act:

“First, our cities will not be flooded with a million immigrants annually. Under the proposed bill, the present level of immigration remains substantially the same…

“Secondly, the ethnic mix of this country will not be upset… Contrary to the charges in some quarters, [the bill] will not inundate America with immigrants from any one country or area, or the most populated and deprived nations of Africa and Asia…

“The bill will not flood our cities with immigrants. It will not upset the ethnic mix of our society. It will not relax the standards of admission. It will not cause American workers to lose their jobs.”

Well, here we are 50 years later and we know how those promises worked out.

But here’s the funny thing: Why is it that the Left immediately jumped to cries of racism when Trump described the terrible, impoverished conditions of other countries? He didn’t mention skin color, nor did he imply it. The Left assumed he did. It’s they who are obsessed with race. Republicans are obsessed with truth and we know what can happen when people from “deprived nations” or “shithole countries” come to America and bring those same bad habits here. It’s not racist to say we don’t want that. Nor is it racist to want immigrants to come here legally and assimilate into our culture, and maybe, just maybe, not trash the place:
