McCain: Obama Should Bomb Syria Before Congress Can Say No

Senator John McCain (R-AZ) says President Obama should bomb Syria before Congress says otherwise and that he should ignore any talk of impeachment for doing so. “They’re not going to impeach the president,” said McCain. “They’re not that crazy.”

According to HotAir, McCain said the president has to decide what is in “our vital national interest.” He said if the “Russian initiative” fails, Obama should make his case to the American people once more and then bomb away.

In this way, he can carry out a strike before Congress has a chance to tell him not to do so:

If he launched an attack on Syria without the endorsement of Congress, it would be vastly more complicated if Congress had already acted. If he acted without the agreement of Congress, you could make the argument before the resolution was passed… that he is acting as other presidents have.

Ironically, on September 5 McCain said, “No one wants American boots on the ground [in Syria],” and if Obama does put boots on the ground it would lead to his impeachment.
