Unions Want Taxpayers to Subsidize Their Healthcare

The unions want us to pay for their healthcare.

“The AFL-CIO approved a resolution saying that President Obama’s health care overhaul will drive up the costs of union-sponsored health plans to the point that workers and employers are forced to abandon them.”

I’m suspicious of any union attack of a Democrat President. The unions can’t afford politically to have an antiunion president and congress in power. They will always vote for the Democrat. “The federation said that labor unions still support the Affordable Care Act’s overall goals of reducing health costs and bringing coverage to all Americans, but added that the law is being implemented in a way that is ‘highly disruptive’ to union health care plans.”

So what do the unions want? They want taxpayers to fund in what’s going to be an increase in healthcare costs under ObamaCare:

“Union officials are seeking rule changes that would make their low-income workers eligible for the same types of federal subsidies they could get in the exchanges. They have also suggested rules that would treat their multi-employer plans as qualified exchange plans under the new law.”

The federal government doesn’t have any money to subsidize anything. That money has to come from tax payers.

We shouldn’t be surprised at any of this since Congress is doing the same thing for its members and their employees. All sorts of exceptions have been carved out for friends of the President.

“U.S. lawmakers and their staffs will continue to receive a federal contribution toward the health insurance that they must purchase through soon-to-open exchanges created by President Barack Obama’s signature healthcare law.

The decision by the Office of Personnel Management, with Obama’s blessing, will prevent the largely unintended loss of healthcare benefits for 535 members of the Senate and House of Representatives and thousands of Capitol Hill staff.”

We’re already paying their salaries, so now we have to subsidize their rising healthcare costs. How convenient to be a government employee.
