White House Announces Option to Buy Catastrophic Insurance Plans

After the Obama administration denigrated catastrophic coverage insurance plans as completely inadequate on December 19, 2013, in a complete reversal announced that it would allow those Americans who had their individual insurance policies canceled due to ObamaCare to buy catastrophic coverage. The insurance industry reacted with an uproar. President and CEO Karen Ignagni of America’s Health Insurance Plans, a national organization that lobbies for health insurance companies, stated that “this latest rule change could cost significant instability in the marketplace and lead to federal confusion and disruption for consumers.”

Obama smileRepublicans in Congress denounced the latest change on Obama Care. Senator Marco Rubio, Republican from Florida, stated the following: “Holding a fire sale of cheap insurance is not a responsible fix for a broken program. This is a slap in the face to the thousands of Americans who have already purchased expensive insurance through the ObamaCare exchanges. ObamaCare as originally conceived is a flawed policy and must be repealed.”

The latest change on the Affordable Care Act by executive order is another violation of the Constitution, as Obama cannot change any part of any law passed by Congress and signed by him. According to the Constitution, Obama needs to go back to Congress to change any part of his healthcare law. It is quite obvious to this writer that this law is completely broken and cannot be fixed by making a series of continuous changes.
