President Obama stepped into the Rose Garden April 1 to remind us that his mission to fundamentally transform the United States healthcare system is too important to be swayed by majority opinion. Obama declared an end to debate.
Our top official made it clear the detrimental consequences of his law exist only in our minds. Obama asserted that we the people are the problem. Obamacare “is doing what it’s supposed to do…the debate over repealing this law is over. The Affordable Care Act is here to stay.”
Is Obama channeling his inner Stalin? The Soviet dictator was known for painting glorious pictures of abundance and paradise in his speeches while sarcastically mocking those that would not get with the program. In a conversation with his Minister of Foreign Service in 1933, Stalin gave his verbal approval to a draft of an upcoming public statement saying:
It came out well…the confident, contemptuous tone…the delicate but plain spitting in the pot of the swaggering ‘great powers’–very good. Let them eat it.
Obama has essentially said the same thing. Don’t like my law? You can just eat it. Echoing Stalin, Obama also pronounced a radiant, economic future for healthcare once the Affordable Care Act is fully realized.
Obama said:
These are all benefits that have been taking place for a whole lot of families out there, many who don’t realize that they’ve received these benefits. But the bottom line is this: Under this law, the share of Americans with insurance is up and the growth of health care costs is down, and that’s good for our middle class and that’s good for our fiscal future… this law is helping millions of Americans, and in the coming years it will help millions more (Applause.)
The President wants Americans to don their rose-colored glasses when viewing Obamacare.
Most citizens see high deductibles, skyrocketing premiums, increased out-of-pocket costs and disappearing doctors, but not Obama. As a member of the elite Party that now rules over us, he is endowed with a special vision which enables him to see just the opposite.
In a December 1, 1935 speech to leading male and female combine drivers in the Soviet Union, Stalin assured his audience they were much better off than before. His comments, which happened to coincide with the Purges and massive shortages, were later condensed into a slogan and endlessly published, quoted, and sung by the Red Army choir.
Everybody now says that the material situation of the toilers, has considerably improved, that life has become better, more cheerful.
The slogan: “Life has become better, comrades, life has become more cheerful.”
Too bad for progressive Democrats, as for Marxist dictators, the utopias they promise are not achieved with pretty words and magical thinking. Consequently, both groups need to suppress dissent and disbelief when things don’t work out.
In a constitutional Republic, that is not an easy feat. Besides doubling down on the lies, Obama has to demonize his opponents. In his speech, he takes jabs at backwards Americans and Republicans standing in the way of “progress.” Backwardness during the Stalinist era was an important theme. Everyone was backwards that did not support the State’s agenda and was ultimately subject to warnings, intimidation or much worse. Obama mimicked this sentiment.
It’s also true that, despite this law, millions of Americans remain uncovered in part because governors in some states for political reasons have deliberately refused to expand coverage under this law. But we’re going to work on that…the lengths to which critics have gone to scare people or undermine the law, or try to repeal the law without offering any plausible alternative so hard to understand. I’ve got to admit, I don’t get it. Why are folks working so hard for people not to have health insurance? Why are they so mad about the idea of folks having health insurance?
In the end, history is not kind to those who would deny Americans their basic economic security. Nobody remembers well those who stand in the way of America’s progress or or our people.
“Progress” for Obama, as it was for Stalin, consists of ramming through radical policies against the people’s will and without regard to human life. Obama’s defiant April 1 speech, sans field jacket and boots, should have every American patriot up in arms.
