Carly Fiorina Blasts Obamatrade Secrecy, Hillary’s Lack of Transparency

On Breitbart News Sunday, GOP presidential candidate Carly Fiorina blasted President Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton for their lack of transparency, saying Obama’s secrecy around the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) trade deal and Hillary Clinton’s family foundation scandals have shown that the two top Democrats cannot be trusted to lead effectively.

“If you don’t have transparency about things that impact people’s lives, then you cannot build trust,” she told host and Breitbart News Executive Chairman Stephen K. Bannon on Sirius XM Patriot channel 125.

On trade, Fiorina said she is for “free and fair trade” because America can “always compete to win” in a “free and fair trading system.” But she expressed deep concern about the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) agreement that has been shrouded in secrecy. The Senate last month voted in favor of Obama’s Trade Promotion Authority (TPA), which would allow the administration to fast-track the TPP deal that nearly every lawmaker has not read. Breitbart News’s Matt Boyle has been on the front lines exposing how few lawmakers have even read the agreement, which is locked in a secret room in the Capitol.

House Speaker Rep. John Boehner (R-OH), whose aides refused to admit to Boyle whether Boehner has even read the TPP deal, and

Rep. Paul Ryan (R-WI) have been working with Obama and other Democrats to round up enough votes in the House to give Obama his Trade Promotion Authority even though the TPP’s living agreement would greatly erode America’s sovereignty by allowing the agreement to be amendment and the country’s immigration laws to be changed with just a two-thirds vote and without the explicit approval of the U.S. congress.

“I don’t trust the huge gap that always exists between the high goals that [Obama administration officials] set out and the details that turn out to be true, so I’d just like to know what’s in the trade agreement,” Fiorina said. “The more secretive they become about it, the more suspicious I become about it.”

Fiorina also took aim at the numerous Clinton Foundation scandals that Breitbart News Senior Editor-at-Large and Government Accountability Institute (GAI) President Peter Schweizer exposed in his bestselling and blockbuster Clinton Cash book. Citing a poll in which 82% of Americans believed that the country has a professional political class that is “more focused on the preservation of their powers, privileges, and positions than doing people’s work,” Fiorina said she is running for president because she, as an outsider, agrees with those 82% of Americans.

She said Hillary and Bill Clinton “are the personification of the professional political class” who have “spent their entire life to preserve their position.” And even though it has become obvious that the purpose of the Clinton Foundation “was to preserve their position,” Fiorina said she has been nevertheless as “shocked by how brazen” some of the relationships between the Clintons and their donors have been.

“What else don’t we know?” Fiorina asked. “Every day a new revelation comes out about how they used this foundation, what the conflicts were between her as secretary of state and the fundraising of the Clinton Global Initiative.”

In contrast to the Clintons and the Obama administration, Fiorina emphasized that she has “been as transparent as possible,” including already releasing her tax returns and making a concerted effort to answer questions thrown at her by the mainstream press and voters.

“In order to be trusted, you have to be transparent,” she said. “That’s true of all of our candidates and it’s particularly true of Bill and Hillary Clinton.”

If she were elected to the White House, Fiorina said she would not only be “incredibly transparent,” but would also “engage the American people in the most important questions of our time” by taking advantage of today’s technology to get better gauge public opinion. Fiorina vowed to ask Americans to take out their smart phones and answer “a series of questions about the things they care about.” She predicted that Americans accustomed to voting for contestants on American Idol and The Voice would be more than willing to participate.

“We now have the technology to engage people directly in the issues that matter most to them, and I think we should use that technology,” she said.

Fiorina also criticized Hillary Clinton and the Obama administration for emboldening Russia, Iran, ISIS and especially China. She said America’s adversaries, thanks to Obama and Clinton, “clearly see… a weakened America.”

Regarding China, which Obama said may eventually join the TPP despite previous claims to the contrary by Obama and

Rep. Paul Ryan (R-WI), Fiorina said that the Communist nation has indeed “become much more assertive on the world’s stage and much more adversarial” as they see a weakened America and gain confidence in their own capabilities. She said that there is “no question” that China has “a strategic goal to become the most powerful economy in the world and exert their influence on the world.” Fiorina also added that China, which she noted has been blatantly violating the World Trade Organization agreement by stealing intellectual properties and not allowing American companies access to its markets, has made a Faustian bargain with their people, which Fiorina described as, “We expect you to tolerate oppression, censorship, amazing amounts of pollution, lack of safety standards, corruption, the forcible movement of people, and in return we will grow the economy at a fast enough rate to lift millions out of poverty.”

Supporting trade policies with China that would be in America’s national interest, Fiorina emphasized that the United States still has plenty of leverage that it can use on China since “we have influence over how fast they grow their economy” and “our companies provide them with technology, jobs, opportunities.” Adding that America is China’s largest market, Fiorina said “we need to have a dialogue that recognizes how much leverage we actually have” and allows China to realize that America is prepared to use that leverage.

Fiorina suggested that America should propose that China plays by the “same rules in our country that you force us to play in your country.” That would mean, according to Fiorina, that Alibaba “couldn’t list their company on the New York Stock Exchange to take advantage of capital markets, Chinese companies couldn’t buy 100% of American companies, Chinese companies couldn’t do all of the things they do in our markets because they prevent us from doing those same things in their markets.”
