If Congress Does Not Act, the Ultimate Destruction of Our Liberty Will Be Clinched

obamacare_not_working_ap_photo_2The American people see a lawless president who is content to do things his way in direct confrontation with the constitution, setting off alarms in their minds about the dangers of this particular combination.

Throughout his presidency, Barack Obama has dismissed the consent of the people in underhanded and scandalous ways, but none so memorable or with such ease as he has in passing and maintaining the Affordable Care Act, or “Obamacare.”

With his final year approaching, Obama has all but given nuclear Intercontinental Ballistic Missiles to Iran, a nation that actually has a, “Death to America” day in their calendar of events; tried to undermine the reelection of the Prime Minister of Israel; denounced the police; let in hundreds of thousands of immigrants, contrary to American law; announced forced integration in suburban neighborhoods; exalted rioters; and said of his remaining time in office that it, “really concentrates the mind.”

So we can expect more of this downward spiral, but this time, he’s really going to focus.

When you went to grade school, you learned of the three branches of government and how they are supposed to work. But while the Executive and the Judicial are continuously taking away our rights, what does the Legislative actually do?

When both halves of Congress put forth their agenda, they come up with a plan and a timeline for that plan. Things never go as they should, but the schedule usually clips along with whatever the leadership decide they would tackle, and what issues face deadlines for acting. This is supposed to show how well they can govern, by having an agenda and working their plan, rather than just reacting to whatever the president’s plan happens to be.

The leadership of Congress is also reacting to cultural issues as they happen. Like when it was fashionable to denounce the confederate flag, they denounced the confederate flag. And while they have relinquished the power of the purse in the House and the treaty power in the Senate, they are plodding on with an education bill and a highway deadline. In the meantime, the Executive is pushing to override their agenda, shepherding everything they do to match Obama’s preferred outcome, and as mentioned before, giving one of our most hated enemies a nuke.

Conservatives are rightfully apoplectic with regard to the ease in which the Executive manipulates the Legislative, especially when the constitution specifically grants the Legislative distinct mechanisms that check the Executive. Americans at large are suffering and will continue to suffer because of these manipulations and these refusals to address the constitutional remedies.

While it is clear that Obama’s focus on what he wants done before he leaves office will speed up, like the belt of chocolate pieces that Lucy and Ethel had to try to manage, Congress’s attempt to manage the coming onslaught will not be as funny. Being able to see it coming turns a happy heart to depression.

It would be a better outcome for the people if Congress’s attention span weren’t so short as to waste time on shiny objects, like appeasing every group who is offended by this or that, and instead focused on major policy issues that the people care about.

People care about the harmful effects of Obamacare, and in the next year, more and more people will want relief from that monstrous takeover of healthcare. Come January, every person’s wallet and health decisions will be affected, but the implementation of the terrible law plods onward, a law that was unpopular when it was signed and remains unpopular still, five years later.

Unless the Legislative Branch includes a major change in their timeline and works with a “concentration” on reversing the ills of Obamacare, the ultimate destruction of our liberty will be clinched, and the defeat of freedom for all will have been performed by the hands of all three branches of government.
