These 10 Republican Candidates Made The Cut For The First Debate

images-26We finally know the 10 Republican presidential candidates who have made the cut for the Fox News debate in Cleveland on Thursday night.

Donald Trump, Jeb Bush, Scott Walker, Mike Huckabee, Ben Carson, Ted Cruz, Marco Rubio, Rand Paul, Chris Christie and John Kasich all qualified for the 9 p.m. eastern televised showdown at the Quicken Loans Arena, the network announced on air Tuesday night.

The debate, sponsored with Facebook, will be moderated by Fox News’ Bret Baier, Megyn Kelly and Chris Wallace.

In a Thursday evening on-air statement by the moderators, the news channel said it determined who gets to take the 10 podiums after averaging the five most recent national polls. Fox said it used recent Bloomberg, CBS News, Fox News, Monmouth University and Quinnipiac University polls.

The other seven Republican candidates in the race are being invited to participate in a televised 90-minute forum earlier Thursday, which will be moderated by Bill Hemmer and Martha MacCallum of Fox News. That event has been nicknamed by some as the “kid’s table debate,” “the B-team debate” and the “happy hour debate.”

Those who will participate in the forum include Rick Perry, Rick Santorum, Bobby Jindal, Carly Fiorina, Lindsey Graham, George Pataki and Jim Gilmore.

Kasich’s inclusion in the prime-time debate comes after announcing a campaign just two weeks ago and seeing his poll numbers rise. The Ohio governor’s rise comes at the expense of Santorum and Perry, two major candidates from the 2012 race, who were hoping to crack the top 10.

“As governor, I am glad to welcome my fellow debate participants to our great state and I look forward to discussing the issues facing our country with them on Thursday,” Kasich said Tuesday.

To be included in the debate, candidates also had to also meet constitutional requirements to be president, file paperwork with the Federal Election Commission and pay federal and state filing fees.
