Trump storms into Iowa, headlines nighttime rally – VIDEO

DUBUQUE, Iowa — Donald Trump returns to Iowa Tuesday night headlining a political rally here, where an estimated 2,000 people were expected to show. His visit comes as Trump continues to lead in the polls here and nationally, surprising many Republicans who have derided the former reality star’s campaign as nothing more than a political sideshow.

But Trump will be doing more than whipping up supporters. Campaign aides who are already working on a serious get-out-the-vote effort in Iowa ahead of February’s first-in-the-nation presidential caucuses have invited influential local party officials, including county GOP chairs in the region, to meet privately with the New York real estate magnate so he can make his pitch directly for why he should be the next GOP nominee.

From here, Trump is expected to shift his campaign back to the South, with rallies in South Carolina and Tennessee later in the week.
