Obama’s Nuclear Deal Cannot be Stopped by Congress

obama goodbyeOn September 2, 2015, Senator Barbara Mikulski, Democrat from Maryland, announced her support for President Obama’s dangerous nuclear deal with Iran. Now President Obama has the votes in the Senate to sustain his veto. She became the 34th senator to commit to vote for the misguided accord. This means that even if the Senate and the House of Representatives are able to pass a bill blocking the deal in the next few days, it will lack the two-thirds support necessary to override a presidential veto. President Obama has said several times he would veto the measure if the Senate and the House of Representatives reject the deal.

The following day Senate Democrats Corey H. Booker from New Jersey, Mark R. Warner from Virginia and Heidi Heitkamp from North Dakota also announced their support for the deal. This brings the number of Senate Democrats in favor of the agreement to 37. If Senate Democrats can get 41 votes to approve the deal, they could block passage of the resolution to disapprove the deal. All Republican senators and only two Democratic senators, Bob Menendez from New Jersey and Charles Schumer from New York, have stated that they would oppose the nuclear deal. Senate Democrats needed 34 votes – three more than they have now – to prevent an override of the presidential veto. Obviously, it is a done deal and Obama, one more time has violated the Constitution, and won.

The Obama complicit established press and Democrats have asserted that this means Obama got his Iran deal through Congress and that it was a great victory for his legacy. Quite the contrary, the United States has sustained a major defeat without fighting a war and has abandoned its most important ally in the Middle East, Israel Obama has done is to get his Iran deal around Congress. Republicans and some Democrats who are strongly opposed to this terrible deal will not be able to stop it due to the inapprotiate procedure created to express their approval or disapproval. Obama’s shameful appeasement in signing the irresponsible nuke deal with Iran does not enjoy the support of the majority of Congress, nor of the American public. A July 2015 Quinnipiac poll showed that Americans nation-wide oppose the Iran deal 2 to 1. An August 2015 Quinnipiac poll indicated that Florida voters oppose the accord 61% to 25% and the rest were undecided. A CNN poll also showed that most Americans want Congress to reject Obama’s deal since it endangers the national security of the United States, Israel and other Arab nations.

Despite an extensive and expensive effort to persuade legislators and the American people, Obama’s Iran deal still faces opposition of the majority in both chambers of Congress. Moreover, the all the Senate Democrats who said they would vote for the deal have expressed some reservation about it; over the weak inspections, great distrust about Iran’s past cheating and hiding nuclear sites, the ability of Iran to get nuclear weapons in the future and Iran’s support for terrorism word-wide. This means that Obama will get his deal despite lacking not only the supermajority support that is typically required for a treaty with a foreign country, but also without public approval. Previous major foreign policy decisions were arrived at with strong bipartisan support. Obama has been very unwise to proceed with his deal with Iran without the support of the majority of Congress and the American people.

Barack Obama is the president who has committed the most crimes in history, including high treason, dereliction of duty, and criminal negligence in Lybia. From the very beginning of his presidency, he has shown comtempt for the Constitution and laws. In 2001 Obama said that “the Constitution is a charter of negative liberties full of constrains imposed upon us by our Founding Fathers.” Obama hates those “constraints” since he wants to govern in a dictatorial manner.

Thanks to the inability of Republicans to uphold the Constitution, the Iran nuclear deal negotiated by the Obama administration cannot be stopped. No matter what President Obama may say about his right to do executive international agreements or deals, he does not have the authority to negotiate treaties with other nations without the advice and consent of the U.S. Senate. Article 2 Section 2 of the Constitution is very clear about this issue. It states “the president shall have power, by and with the advice and consent of the Senate, to make treaties, provided that two thirds of the Senators present concur.” Obama called the negotiation with Iran and other countries “a deal” or, as the agreement is formally known as, the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), but this it is still a treaty that needed the advice and consent of the U.S. Senate.

Even worse was Obama’s decision of allowing the accord to be immediately approved by the United Nations Security Council without allowing Congress to study the agreement. Obama has ignored Congress, a co-equal elected branch of government, has issued executive orders, executive memos, and allowed federal departments and agencies to execute regulations that are basically unconstitutional laws. Now a Republican majority Congress have allowed this rogue president to violate the Constitution again by signing a treaty without the required two thirds vote of approval in the Senate.

Obama by seeking approval from the Security Council of the United Nations (U.N.) and bypassing Congress took one more step to do away with U.S. sovereignty and to push the nation under a U.N. planetary government. An article on the American Examiner explained the following: “The entire point was to use the international body to force the hand of America’s elected lawmakers. It sets a terrible precedent, because American presidents, as much latitude as the Constitution gives them in conducting the foreign policy of the United States, are not given a blank check to make that policy up as they go along. Matters of such great importance to world affairs as the potential proliferation of nuclear arms in the Middle East deserve the full deliberation of both elected branches of government… Few presidents have been so foolish as to act unilaterally on a matter of such significance, as Obama has done this summer.

Iran views the United States as the “Great Satan” and its number one enemy

A New York Times article reported on September 2, 2015 that hard-liners in Iran still think that the United States is the “Great Satan” and its number one enemy. Major General Mohammad Ali Jafari, the head of the radical Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps, stated that plans are underway to expand the reach of Iran’s missiles and warned that despite the nuclear deal, America was still the “same Great Satan.”

General Jafari criticized Iranian regime officials, including President Hassan Rouhani, who want to improve relations. He stated the following: “What causes even greater concern is that with this simple-minded attitude these people believe that we need to choose another path and should change our behavior. The enemy has now resorted to using soft political and economic power. The answer to these kinds of threats after the deal could be for the government of the Islamic Republic to adopt a revolutionary and clearer stance.” General Jafari told a group of military figures to prepare for new American threats and advised Iranian President Hassan Rouhani to do the same.

Major General Mohammad Ali Jafari, the head of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), is the commander of an army of about 300,000 soldiers, not including reservists. The IRGC is the most powerful part in the regime’s security forces, running everything from the country’s missile systems to the Basij militia. This militia of thousands of young men enforce domestic order and it is use to attack anyone who protests against the Islamic terrorist regime and wants democracy. Reporting to the Supreme Leader, the IRGC is listed by the U.S. government as a terrorist organization — and also maintains an extensive business empire in Iran. The support of the IRGC and the Basij will be crucial to the Islamic Republic’s hopes of suppressing a popular revolt against the tyrannical regime.

General Jafari and his military commanders have shown great concern over possible constraints on Iran’s missile program, under a provision of the nuclear agreement. The agreement calls for limits on the missiles, which are regarded as vital to Iran’s military strategy. General Jafari said the range of missiles — now 2,000 kilometers, about 1,242 miles — would be increased. Obviously, developing long-range intercontinental ballistic missiles, as Israeli Ambassador to the U.S. Dermer reminded us, is not directed against his country. It is directed against the United States and its European allies. Obama needs to deploy the anti-missile system that he cancelled in Poland and the Czech Republic and deploy a better one to protect the U.S. mainland.

General Jafari also announced 20 military drills, but did not mention whether those would involve new missile tests. General Jafari also stressed that the IRGC would stay involved in the economy as well.

The remarks made by General Jafari were similar to those made by Mohammad Yazdi, the head Assembly of Experts, a very influential clerical council. Mullah Yazdi said that the nuclear agreement should not mean any broader political reconciliation with the United States, which broke relations with Iran 35 years ago. He added, “We should not change our foreign policy of opposition to America, our Number One enemy, whose crimes are uncountable.” Mullah Yazdi said that Iran’s 79 million consumers are not opening up to the United States. He explained that “The U.S. will take this dream of coming to the market of Iran and getting the income it used to make before the revolution to its grave.”

President Hassan Rouhani of Iran arrived on September 1, 2015 to speak at a session of the Assembly of Experts, the 86-member group, which is in charge of appointing and supervising the supreme leader.

IRGC’s top commander in Tehran province, Brigadier General Mohsen Kazzemeini, told operating units in Tharallah Drills in the Iranian capital on September 2, 2015 the following: “The U.S. and the Zionists should know that the Islamic Revolution will continue enhancing its preparedness until it overthrows Israel and liberates Palestine. And we will continue defending not just our country, but all the oppressed people of the world, especially those countries that are standing on the forefront of confrontation with the Zionist.”

Conclusion

The Republican majority in Congress made a big mistake by establishing a procedure that requires a two-thirds vote to stop Obama from just doing whatever he wants. Republicans should have fought strongly against the Democrats in the Senate who placed Obama’s legacy above all other considerations, including the security of the nation. World peace and a stable Middle East took a back seat among Senate Democrats who wanted to please the traitor who lives in the White House.

Americans should remember the names of all the irresponsible members of Congress who supported the dangerous Iran deal and vote each of them out of office in the next election. The bellicose statements made by Major General Mohammad Ali Jafari, the head of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps, IRGC’s top commander in Tehran province, Brigadier General Mohsen Kazzemeini and Mohammad Yazdi, the head Assembly of Experts, should alert that the United States is seen as Iran’s Number One enemy. Moreover, General Jafari said that he intends to increase the range of Iran’s missiles by developing long-range intercontinental ballistic missiles. Obviously, the intention is to reach targets in the United States and Europe.

As for Obama’s destructive legacy, it will be make war inevitable, encourage the proliferation of nuclear arms in the Middle East and leave the world in absolute turmoil. Appeasement has never worked in history. Obama’s legacy will be to be remembered as the new modern-day appeaser with Iran, Cuba, Venezuela, Russia, China and Islamic terrorists. His deal with Iran will be compared by historians with what British Prime Minister Neville Chamberlain did with Adolph Hitler and Benito Mussolini in 1938 in Munich. Obama will also be remembered as the architect of the destruction of the United States.

In 1938 British Prime Minister Neville Chamberlain (to the right of the picture) met with Adolph Hitler and Benito Mussolini in Munich, Germany and sold out Czechoslovakia in an act of appeasement. After returning to London, Chamberlain said, “We have achieved peace in our times.” The following year a much stronger Nazi Germany was at war with Great Britain and World War II started in a conflict that would devastate Europe and the world.

American voters should demand that every presidential candidate for 2016 obey the Constitution, respect the separation of powers, and take all international agreements and treaties to the Senate for advice and consent. Unless two thirds of senators agree on a proposed treaty, accord or “deal,” the president needs to go back to the negotiating table and obtain a better agreement to safeguard the national security. All presidential candidates need to work with Congress to a reasonable extent when conducting foreign policy, rather than use the dictators’ club, that is the corrupt United Nations, to decide on issues involving U.S. national security and that of it.
