Bernie Sanders has been peddling the fantasy that by soaking Wall Street and other mega-rich people with high taxes, a bonanza of freebies – free college, free health care, etc. – can be available for all. Pure covetous class envy worthy of the crudest communist revolutionary.
I have to give former Clinton White House official George Stephanopoulos credit for pressing Sanders yesterday on ABC’s This Week, over whether he could pay for Christmas every day just with taxes on the ultra-rich. In the clip below, finally, more than three and a half minutes into the questioning, Sanders concedes that payroll taxes will have to rise “a little” in order to pay for his comprehensive welfare state spending spree.
The last Democrat to run on raising broad taxes was George McGovern. We all know how that turned out. At this point, following his gift to Hillary Clinton in the first Democrat debate, Sanders obviously knows he’s not going to get the nomination. He is just being an agitator. And Stephanopoulos is doing Hillary a favor.
