You know, there was a time when the buzzword about Washington D.C. — aided and abetted by the liberal progressive media — was that Republicans were just obstructionists. It’s funny, no one seemed to recall all those hundreds of pieces of legislation passed by the House that sat somewhere in former Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid’s office. No one in the D.C. liberal cocktail circuit blinked an eye when Harry Reid eradicated the filibuster rule of 60-vote clearance back to a simple majority — that was cool.
Lightning struck again on Tuesday by the new obstructionist Senate Democrats.
As reported by Fox News, “Senate Democrats on Tuesday blocked a Republican-backed bill that would crack down on so-called sanctuary cities by threatening to withhold funds to local governments that don’t cooperate with federal immigration officials. The bill failed on a 54-45 vote. It needed 60 to advance.
But GOP backers cast the legislation as a critical first step toward reining in the exploding, and risky, practice of cities and counties ignoring federal immigration law.
The bill was considered months after a young woman’s murder in San Francisco allegedly at the hands of an illegal immigrant touched off a national debate over immigration law. Vitter had urged colleagues to “remember Kate Steinle’s vicious murder and the tens of thousands of crimes committed by illegal immigrants within our borders.”
There is only one deduction from this vote: the Senate Democrats — indeed the Democrat Party — care little about the respect of the rule of law and the sovereignty of the United States. It also shows that the Democrat Party, led by President Barack Hussein Obama, believes the politics of pandering is more important than the security of the American people.
Sadly, I live in a sanctuary city, Dallas Texas, and there are many others here in this state. How can it be that a state, a city, can flaunt the rule of law and then receive federal government funding?
Let me ask you a simple question. The U.S. Supreme Court ruled — and just as a reminder, five folks in black robes do not make law in America — that they had created a new right based on an individual’s sexual behavioral choice and every state must abide by that ruling. So can someone explain to me how a state, and a city, can decide it will not follow federal law and still receive funding from the American taxpayer?
If the “equal protection under the law” clause of the 14th Amendment could be used to justify same-sex marriage in America…then how is it that the American people do not have equal protection from criminal illegal immigrants?
If you take the time to review the U.S. Constitution in Article I, Section 8, Clause 15, it states: “To provide for calling forth the Militia to execute the Laws of the Union, suppress insurrections, and repel Invasions.” The Founding Fathers realized that someone coming across our border violated our sovereignty and constituted an invasion. The enumerated power on matters of naturalization and to execute the laws of the Union and repel invasions went to the U.S. Congress, the Legislative branch, not the Executive. We have states and cities in America where felonious illegal immigrants are preying on our American citizens and are being shielded by these entities in complete and total disregard of our rule of law. And thanks to the Senate Democrats and President Obama, that is just fine by them.
Please understand, when I say preying upon American citizens, that means any and all American citizens. So states in America must marry same-sex couples, but according to the liberal progressive socialists of the Democrat Party, they don’t have to respect the “Laws of the Union.”
I’m appalled that we have such blatant lawlessness emanating from this political party. And calling me a racist because I don’t support felony illegal immigrants roaming our streets is just plain stupid. There’s no defense for what the Senate Democrats did yesterday — just as with blocking the JCPOA from the Senate floor.
And what is even more sickening is the lack of principle from the liberal progressive media. Remember, when Homeland Security Secretary Jeh Johnson was asked at a House hearing about Kate Steinle, he responded, “who?” That, ladies and gents, says it all. For today’s Democrat Party, it’s fine to provide taxpayer funding to a private sector, not-for-profit organization that’s killing babies and harvesting their body parts. But threatening to veto the National Defense Authorization Act and cutting 40,000 active duty Army Soldiers is fine.
Blocking a bill to end federal funding to sanctuary cities where felony illegal immigrants find safe haven is good. Allowing law-abiding Americans to have their Second Amendment right to defend themselves is bad.
This is a time for choosing and if you believe blocking the anti-sanctuary city bill was a good thing, you are and will be on the wrong side of American history.
