Thomas Sowell Endorses Sen. Ted Cruz

Conservative intellectual and economist Thomas Sowell has endorsed Sen. Ted Cruz for president and slammed Donald Trump in the process.

In a Tuesday column entitled “Tragedy and Choices,” Sowell wrote that due to the challenges America faces “we cannot afford a novice in the complex world of politics and government at a time of grave dangers at home and internationally.”

Citing Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia’s death, Sowell wrote, “As someone who once clerked for a Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, [Cruz] will know how important choosing Justice Scalia’s replacement will be. And he has the intellect to understand much more.”

Sowell said that Trump will be beaten by Hillary Clinton if the current polls hold. Later questioning, “If, by some miracle, Trump became president, what kind of president would he be? Do we need another self-centered know-it-all in the White House to replace the one we have now?”

While he as been critical of Cruz in the past, Sowell said that “we can only make our choices among those actually available, and Senator Cruz is the one who comes to mind when depth and steadfastness come to mind.”

“As someone who once clerked for a Chief Justice of the Supreme Court,” Sowell argued that Cruz “will know how important choosing Justice Scalia’s replacement will be. And he has the intellect to understand much more.”
