BREAKING: Trump Picks Up MASSIVE Endorsement From Conservative Legend

BREAKING: Trump Picks Up MASSIVE Endorsement From Conservative LegendPhyllis Schlafly, the 91-year-old icon who helped launch the conservative movement in the 1960s, announced her endorsement of Donald Trump for the GOP nomination for president yesterday afternoon.

Schlafly made the endorsement at a Trump rally in her hometown of St. Louis. She said that Trump was the first leader of the GOP in a long while she saw as leading the party to victory.

“I know who you came to see, so I’ll be quick,” Schlafly said, according to The Washington Post. “I think he has the courage and the energy — you know you have to have energy for that job — in order to bring some changes. To do what the grass roots want him to do because this is a grass-roots uprising.

“We’ve been following the losers for so long — now we’ve got a guy who’s going to lead us to victory,” she added.

Schafly initially came to prominence in 1964 after her pamphlet “A Choice, Not An Echo” was published. In it, Schafly argued that the Republican Party frequently lost by picking moderates in backdoor conferences as opposed to listening to its voters, a situation which has clearly been rectified in the present.

She’s since stayed active in American politics through her conservative organization, the Eagle Forum.

Schlafly’s endorsement is a massive blow to Trump’s closest rival, Texas Sen. Ted Cruz, who had been courting Schlafly for quite some time. At last year’s Eagle Conference in St. Louis, Cruz was almost fulsome in his praise of the icon.

“Washington is suffused with a spirit of fear and timidity,” he said then. “That is a spirit Phyllis Schlafly doesn’t even begin to understand. When she says a choice, not an echo, she means exactly that: a real, meaningful, conservative choice! Phyllis, I have to tell you, you inspire me.”

However, in a December interview with Breitbart, Schlafly argued that Cruz would be better suited as a Supreme Court nominee for a Trump presidency.

“That’s the place I think Cruz should go,” Schlafly said. “He’s eminently qualified for that. And that would be a perfect solution for him … his qualifications are enormous.”

Schafly’s endorsement was somewhat overshadowed by violent anti-Trump protesters, who disrupted rallies in both St. Louis and Chicago yesterday.
