The First US Marine Was Just Killed By ISIS Terrorists in Iraq

GettyImages-84225456-770x330As the battle against ISIS rages on in Iraq and Syria, the first U.S. Marine has been killed by the jihadists.

The Marine Corps Times reported on what happened:

A U.S. servicemember was killed at a northern Iraqi base after it came under rocket attack, a U.S. military official told USA TODAY on Saturday.

Two rockets hit the base, but one didn’t cause any casualties or damage, according to the official, who spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to speak publicly about the incident.

The servicemember was among a small unit of troops advising the 15th Division of the Iraqi army, the official said.

The name of the Marine who was killed hasn’t been released yet, but the Pentagon has called his death the result of “enemy action,” via the Washington Post.

A U.S. defense official, who didn’t give his name, told Fox News:

“It was a lucky strike by ISIS.”

He is the second member of the U.S. military to die in the fight against ISIS. The first, Master Sergeant Joshua Wheeler, was killed in a firefight during a rescue operation of 70 hostages.

While President Obama continues to claim no boots will be on the ground in a combat role, there are now two combat-related deaths in the fight against the Islamic State.

Rest in peace, brave warrior.
