Republican presidential contender Texas Sen. Ted Cruz fired back at New York City Democratic Mayor Bill de Blasio Wednesday, releasing a new ad attacking the Democratic mayor and his “socialist policies.”
The 60-second radio ad begins by playing recent comments from de Blasio attacking Cruz for being “out of touch” with New York values. The ad’s narrator then rips into De Blasio.
“He’s got a lot of nerve. De Blasio’s socialist policies are tearing this city apart,” the narrator says. “Murder’s up nearly 10 percent. He treats cops like criminals and criminals like freedom fighters. De Blasio made New York a sanctuary city, rolling out the red carpet for illegals. And de Blasio ended stop-and-frisk even where terror suspects are known to congregate.”
“Now he’s meddling in the Republican primary, campaigning against Cruz because when Cruz is president de Blasio’s done,” the narrator added. “No more criminal-coddling, soft-on-terror policies. No more sanctuary cities. And Cruz will instruct the Justice Department to hold corrupt politicians accountable. Maybe that’s why de Blasio fears Ted Cruz.”
The ad concludes, “Send de Blasio a message: vote Cruz for president.”
In addition to recently accusing the Texas senator of being “out of touch,” de Blasio cautioned Cruz to “be careful” when discussing New York Democrats and their history of scandals and corruption.
Rhetoric between Cruz and New York politicians has been heating up over recent weeks in the lead-up to New York’s April 19 primary. According to RealClearPolitics, Cruz is currently third among Republicans in the Empire state.
