We’re all aware of the existence of sanctuary cities and the problems that have arisen from them. In such cities, illegal immigrants don’t need to worry about law enforcement coming for them on the basis of their lack of citizenship.
Over 200 cities and local jurisdictions have “sanctuary” policies calling for them to ignore all Immigration and Customs Enforcement detention requests.
To no surprise, such “sanctuaries” have become sanctuaries for Latin American drug cartels and gangs, among other criminal groups and activities. But forget hearing about sanctuary cities for a second – we may be getting our first sanctuary STATE.

Delaware could become the nation’s first “sanctuary state” — endangering all of its legal citizens and effectively crippling both state and local law enforcement. That’s if a new bill, Senate Bill 60, passes.
“Essentially what SB 60 does is makes us a sanctuary state,” Brian Pettyjohn, a Republican state senator who opposes the bill, told LifeZette. “Using the terms outlined in the bill, it uses state tools to limit what law enforcement can do throughout the state in terms of detaining illegal immigrants. This bill basically gives them a free pass.”
As for the defense of the bill? It essentially boils down to “won’t anyone think about the illegals?”
The bill’s primary sponsor, state senator Brian Townsend (D), said of the measure, “There is a very important consideration that would support the passage of SB 60. A real concern within communities of undocumented Delawareans is that undocumented individuals may hesitate to report crimes for fear of police detaining them simply for being undocumented. This means that victims of domestic abuse might not come forward, and witnesses of child abuse might not come forward.
If only our leaders showed the same level of concern for our own citizens…
