Breaking: After Obama Meets With Sanders, He Makes Big Announcement About Clinton

Obama+Hillary+CNN+1In a move pundits had been calling for since Hillary Clinton became the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee, President Barack Obama on Thursday endorsed his former secretary of state.

“If what you care about in this election is your pocketbook,” he told voters, “if what you’re concerned about is who will look out for the interests of working people and grow the middle class, if that’s what you’re concerned about, then the debate … is not even close.”

The Clinton campaign released a video of Obama’s remarks on the same day the president met with Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders about his continued presence in the race.

“I want to congratulate Hillary Clinton on making history as the presumptive Democratic nominee for president of the United States,” he said. “I know how hard this job can be; that’s why I know Hillary will be so good at it.”

After ceremonially adding his name to the growing list of Democrats coalescing behind the presumptive nominee, Obama provided his most glowing recommendation.

“I don’t think there’s ever been someone so qualified to hold this office,” he said.

Obama went on to cite the former first lady’s “courage, compassion and heart” as qualities voters should consider when casting their ballot.
