FROM RICHES TO RAGS

chavez_maduro There is not Communism or Marxism, but representative democracy and social justice in a well-planned economy.

 Fidel Castro

I have said it already; I am convinced that the way to build a new and better world is not capitalism. Capitalism leads us straight to hell.

 Hugo Chavez

The phrase “from rags to riches” symbolized the idea that in a country like the United States with freedom and free trade based capitalism, everything was possible for anyone, including gaining wealth. In our history socialism has proven unworkable as the notion of “distribution of wealth” has only caused a disincentive for the population to aspire by hard work and luck to improve their lives and fortune.

The latest nation to prove that the idea of an elite, controlling the majority of the people with the promise of social and economic justice is just a ruse to gain power and the only difference becomes who will own the wealth, not its sharing, was Venezuela. For a whole country to go from “riches to rags”, so rapidly is rare, and in an oil rich nation like Venezuela practically inconceivably. The rapid collapse of the country also was caused by inexperienced and corrupt leaders like Chavez, and his intellectually challenged successor designate Nicolas Maduro.

These self anointed leaders surrendered the nation to the Castro’s and bought their permanence in power by buying with doles the affection of the populace, and the submission of the military. To make matters worse, the so called opposition, when not fighting among themselves, was trying to topple the dictatorial regime by democratic means.  Using elections, judicial demands, and legislative powers to topple a government that controls all institutions is a non sequitur.

Ignoring all their failures, even now they hope that corrupt organizations like the OAS, or the government of the United States, who presently helps Cuba, will come to their assistance. People are rebelling and taking to the streets. The economy is so bad, that all the economic classes are suffering as the help previously received is no longer. It might be, though, to late as the military will be likely not to respond because of their financial investment in the status quo, and Cuba, relieved by Obama from their own economic disaster, will do whatever possible to maintain its satellite country and its source of oil.

Poor Venezuelan people!
