BREAKING: Police officer shot and killed…

breaking1-2

Not again.

In what now feels like an epidemic, we’re learning of yet another police officer who has been shot and killed in the line of duty. This time, it’s in Kansas City, Kansas.

Via KCTV Kansas:

A KCK police officer has died after being shot Tuesday afternoon.

Sources confirm to KCTV5 News the officer died while reporting on an armed disturbance call.

Police Chief Terry Zeigler said the shooting happened at 22nd Street and Haskell Avenue.

The shooting happened following an armed disturbance call at about 1:33 p.m. An individual said three or four parties were shooting in his direction.

Officers arrived on the scene at 1:37 p.m. The officer was shot at 1:58 p.m., according to police. He attempted to make contact with another suspect in the area.

Police on scene say the officer responded alone to a shots fired call.

Officer Tom Tomasic said on the scene multiple suspects are in custody.

Police are searching the area, and the FBI is also on the scene investigating.

The Kansas City Star reported that police swarmed the area where the shooting took place, some of them holding rifles. Several officers took cover behind cars.

This is the second time this year that Kansas City officer has been shot in the line of duty. And, of course, this is the latest in a growing string of police shootings in just the past two weeks alone across multiple states.

No word yet on the identity or motive of the suspects. Kansas City Police plan to hold a briefing later this afternoon and we’ll update you as we learn more.

In the meantime, sending prayers for the fallen officer, his family and all of our men and women in blue.
