Presumptive Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump questioned President Barack Obama’s sincerity when voicing support of police, suggesting the president isn’t genuine when he expresses sympathy for murdered officers.
“There’s something going on,” Trump told Fox News’ Steve Doocy Monday about the president’s remarks after the Sunday shooting, which left three police officers dead. “Sometimes the words are OK, but you look at the body language. There’s just a bad feeling about him,” he added.
Trump used similar language in another Fox News interview in June to suggest Obama harbored sympathies for terrorists. Trump told Fox and Friends host Brian Kilmeade in the aftermath of the brutal massacre staged by Omar Mateen at Orlando’s Pulse nightclub, that the president was concealing empathy for radical Islamic terrorists. “We’re led by a man that either is not tough, not smart, or he’s got something else in mind,” he said at the time.
The Manhattan real estate mogul praised police across the country, saying they are unfairly blamed for growing racial tensions. A total of eight police officers have been killed in ambush-style attacks in Baton Rouge and Dallas in recent weeks.
“I think the police in this country are treated very unfairly,” he said.
“They have been so outstanding. Some of the great people I know, they’re police.”
