The campaign has been intense in many races. Thank you for sharing our voter guides! They are making a difference in the races and the media is talking about them:
Anti-Common Core Group Rates Primary Candidates on Commitment to Abolishing Common Core by Allison Neilsen at Sunshine State News
This story was also picked up by the influential political blog Sunburn at FloridaPolitics.com
CBS of Miami teamed up with the News Service of Florida to also discuss our guides.
Here are links to the voter guides, grades for the candidates, and media coverage or our analysis of the individual races:
SENATE DISTRICT 12: Dennis Baxley (D) David Gee (A-) Marlene O’Toole (F) (Marion, Lake, and Sumter Counties)
The Villages News.com discussed our ratings and CBS Miami mentioned the effect of Common Core in this race.
SENATE DISTRICT 17: Debbie Mayfield (A++) Michael Thomas (C+) Amy Tidd (C-) Ritch Workman (F) (Brevard and Indian River Counties)
There has been much media coverage of both our voter guides with Rep Mayfield’s A++ rating from us and several other partner organizations and the fact that Rep. Workman put out absolutely false ads about his leadership in fighting Common Core, earning him an F in our ratings:
Dr. Effrem’s Letter to the Editor in the TCPalm
Rep. Mayfield has also received a new endorsement from our great partners the Tea Party Network , as well as endorsements from other of our wonderful partners and allies like Liberty First Network, The Republican Liberty Caucus of Florida, and Florida Parents Against Common Core.
SENATE DISTRICT 23: Frank Alcock (C) Frank Cirillo (C-) Doug Holder (F) Rick Levine(B-) Nora Patterson (C-) Ray Pilon (A+) Greg Steube (B+) (Sarasota and Charlotte Counties)
Former Rep. Holder’s Common Core deceit, similar to Rep. Workman’s was well explained in Sunshine State News.
Rep. Steube has strong endorsements and rating from our partners and allies on a number of issues including fighting and pledging to fight Common Core and Rep. Pilon has sponsored and co-sponsored much anti-Common Core legislation
SENATE DISTRICT 28: Matt Hudson (B+) Kathleen Passidomo (D) (Lee and Collier Counties)
According to coverage in Florida Politics, “Rep. Passidomo hasn’t earned a single endorsement from a conservative grassroots organization; whereas, Rep. Hudson has received the support of the Republican Liberty Caucus for his conservative stance on limited government and free market principles, and the Eagle Forum PAC and the Florida Family Action for his support of traditional family values and pro-life legislation. Additionally, he has the higher NRA rating and the higher rating from Florida Stop Common Core Coalition.”
Rep. Passidomo received the low grade in our rating for her House sponsorship of the 2013 student data mining bill.
HO– — USE DISTRICT 4: Laurie Bartlett (A) Wayne Harris (C-) Armand Izzo (B-) Mel Ponder(C-) Jonathan Tallman (C) (Okaloosa County)
Laurie Bartlett received the highest grade because of her years long battle against Common Core well before moving to Florida and running for office
HO– — USE DISTRICT 73: Joe Gruter (D-) Steve Vernon (A) (Manatee and Sarasota Counties)
The Sarasota Herald Tribune mentioned our ratings, analysis and concern about Joe Gruters being one of the first officials to start talking about the Common Core rebrand in 2013 to remove public pressure.
