Christians Sue The Feds To Stop Them From Forcing Doctors To Perform Transgender Procedures

Christian-owned medical heath care providers, along with five states, are fighting back against Obama Administration regulations which would potentially force doctors to violate their medical judgment and/or religious precepts by performing sex-reassignment procedures on both adults and children, reports Fox News.

Last Tuesday, a lawsuit was filed at a Texas federal court on behalf of Christian Medical and Dental Association, the Franciscan Alliance and the states of Texas, Kansas, Wisconsin, Kentucky and Nebraska against President Obama’s Health and Human Services Department.

In adherence to the department’s pro-transgender regulations issued in May, doctors fear the new “rigid commands” would mandate them to provide hysterectomies and other gender-transition procedures, despite their objections rooted in medical judgment or religious precepts, explains the lawsuit. Under the guise of nondiscrimination, a doctor could potentially be forced by law to perform a “transition” surgery on a young child, worry the plaintiffs.

“On pain of significant financial liability, the regulation forces doctors to perform controversial and sometimes harmful medical procedures ostensibly designed to permanently change an individual’s sex—including the sex of children,” states the lawsuit.

Due to the Obama regulations, insurers would also be obligated to cover all treatments for their transgender patients and allow them the use of facilities corresponding to their “gender identity” as opposed to biology, notes The Wall Street Journal. All federally subsidized medical systems would also have to capitulate to such regulations.

Becket Fund for Religious Liberty, which filed the suit, argues that the Obama regulations restrict freedom on doctors and hospitals.

“The regulation leaves doctors and hospitals in a very difficult position,” said Luke Goodrich, a lawyer the Becket Fund.

Transgender advocates outright dismiss that the scenario would ever even happen, with a severely weak rationale: Trans patients, according to the advocates, would never force an unwilling medical profession to perform a trans procedure on them, as the doctor in question would likely have no experience in the matter.

“The only thing a doctor is obliged to do is treat all patients, including trans patients, with dignity and respect and to make treatment decisions free from bias,” said the executive director of the Transgender Legal Defense Fund, Jillian Weiss. “If a doctor has a sound, evidence-based, medical reason to delay transition care for a specific patient, that would be respected under the regulations.”

Along with new medical transgender regulations, the Obama Administration also sent out a transgender edit through the Department of Education in May, requiring all public schools to bow to their trans ideology at the threat of lawsuits and revoked funding. Conservatives fought back against the overreach and scored a victory last Sunday when a Texas judge temporarily blocked the mandate.
