Last Night, Hillary Said Violent Crime Is Down. That’s A Lie.

Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton said during Monday’s presidential debate that violent crime is down. This is a blatant lie, which is the norm for Clinton.

After GOP presidential nominee Donald Trump discussed the need for law-and-order, Clinton responded with this whopper:

Now, I believe in community policing. And, in fact, violent crime is one-half of what it was in 1991. Property crime is down 40 percent. We just don’t want to see it creep back up. We’ve had 25 years of very good cooperation.

There is a reason Clinton chose 1991 as the baseline year to measure crime – that was a year where there was an enormous amount of crime, which was subsequently reduced sharply by the introduction of “broken-windows” policing. But what Clinton left out – and Trump failed to bring up in response – is that violent crime has actually risen from 2014 to 2015.

As the Daily Wire reported on Monday, the FBI released a new report showing that violent crime increased by 3.9 percent from 2014 to 2015, including:

  • 10.8 percent increase in murders.
  • 5.1 percent increase in rapes.
  • 4.6 percent increase in aggravated assaults.
  • 1.4 percent increase in robberies.

Additionally, FiveThirtyEight found in the FBI’s report that 52 out of 82 cities with populations of 250,000 or more experienced an increase murder from 2014 to 2015 – and is continuing to rise in 2016 – while 26 saw a decrease in murder. Among killings per 100,000 people, the murder rate increased from 4.4 percent to 4.9 percent in the same timeframe, and the trend line shows it rising fast:

These are key statistics that Clinton failed to mention in her answer, as she has been pandering to the Black Lives Matter crowd lately and these facts would get in the way of that.
