Recently an audio conversation of Trump speaking in a very lewd manner about women surfaced on the internet and people have been having vary bad reaction to content of the video. In it Trump says some very vulgar things about women and speaks about trying to seduce a married woman. However, one person who you might not expect, has stepped up to the plate to defend Trump and show his continued support for the GOP nominee.
Christian Coalition founder, Ralph Reed, has shocked the media by coming out and saying that he still backs Trump in an interview with CNN’s Ashley Killough. His main reason for backing Trump was that he felt the video was distracting people from the real issues that Christian voters feel the most strongly about.
“I’ve listened to the tape, my view is that people of faith are voting for president on issues like who will defend and protect unborn life, defund Planned Parenthood, grow the economy and create jobs, and oppose the Iran nuclear deal,” Reed explained.
“I think a 10-year-old tape of a private conversation with (a) TV talk show host ranks pretty low on their hierarchy of their concerns.”

Fox News reports that Trump issued a statement late on Friday, few hours after the audio tape first emerged, saying that the comments “don’t reflect who I am. I said it, I was wrong, and I apologize.”
“I’ve said some foolish things, but there’s a big difference between the words and actions of other people,” Trump continued in the video. “Bill Clinton has actually abused women … We will discuss this more in the coming days.”
Still many Republicans were not convinced including Sen. Mike Lee, one of the few people Trump would consider appointing to the Supreme Court, who asked Trump to step down.
Lee said that Trumps comments and attitude towards women have become a “distraction” and now it’s “time for him to step aside so we can focus on the winning ideas that will carry Republicans through to a victory in November.”
Yet, Trump still has the support of Reed who is one of the nation’s most prominent evangelical leaders. This might be a sign that Trump has a chance of coming back from this very damaging statement but in the end, only time will tell.
