Please God, Help Trump Win

I hope you won’t mind this very public invocation. Nothing I say here is different from how I privately pray about things outside the sphere of my personal life. I know that a great many of my fellow Americans are saying a similar prayer.

As of course you know, a slim majority of my countrymen and women are possibly on the verge of electing Hillary Clinton to the office of the presidency. I believe we need your intervention more than at any time since the American Civil War. The Greatest Generation held us together through the Great Depression, World War II, and, to a lesser extent, 9/11.  Now I fear our nation will come apart at the seams. Though I am a Republican and pretty much always vote Republican,  the revelations I’ve heard and the things that have allegedly come to pass at the hands of the Democratic Left lead me to believe that the situation is so far gone and beyond conventional two-party partisanship that only you can save us now.

I’m convinced—and have been for over a year–that for all his unconventionality (in too many senses to count), Donald Trump is the superior of the two candidates when it comes to saving the America that acknowledges your all-powerful presence in its pledge of allegiance. Some of my Christian associates don’t mince words, and claim that you have been sent by the deity to arrange the deconstruction of our nefariously corrupt, collusive, and disdainful ruling class. I can’t go that far, but if that’s part of the plan, I’m aboard.

I’ve always known the deck was stacked, by the Washington cartel, a plus-size percentage of the media, the ivory tower academics, and the social justice entertainers in Hollywood. But the wrongness of the left’s methods and ethics, the labyrinthine depths of its horribleness have been revealed as sure as the reflection in a mirror. Our institutions are untrusted, our faith under assault, and our sovereignty out for barter in global marketplace that cares not a whit for the working people of the United States.

So, I’m asking if there’s anything you can do to help Donald get those 270 electoral votes.

As Election Day approaches, I’m also thinking about my fellow conservatives who are NeverTrumpers. I ask that you have a benevolent thought for them too. I refer now to patriots like Governor Mitt Romney, one of our respected generals, Colin Powell, and political analyst and writer Dr. Charles Krauthammer, a man who faced great adversity, rose to the challenge, and became one of the most influential voices in the national conversation.

They cannot vote for Hillary, and, when all is said, done, and accounted for, they cannot vote for Trump.

I obviously disagree with them, but (it should go without saying) totally respect their decision. However, by sitting out election 2016 or casting a meaningless “other” vote they have muted their efficacious and incisive criticisms of Ms. Clinton. I understand that it’s entirely possible to revile both candidates, but when I hear NeverTrump conservatives criticize Clinton now–and you know better than any mortal how much fodder there is for critiquing–it rings hollow. It is hard for those who want to win with Trump to reconcile their condemnation of Clinton’s ills and unwillingness to bite the bullet and vote for the only mortal who can stop her.

So, a prayer for Trump, a prayer for America, and a prayer for the NeverTrumpers.  Should your arch-nemesis prevail and Clinton ascend to the presidency, I’m not sure what Mr. Trump will do, and I’m  unsure about the future direction of the nation. I am sure that the NeverTrumpers will still be with us, but their claim on the role of loyal opposition to President Clinton will sound like a dim, defeated signal from the political wilderness.
