As this topsiest-turviest of years draws to a close, it’s perhaps fitting that the leader of Russia, a former KGB agent, has some words of wisdom for a Democrat Party that never met a Russian it didn’t love until a few weeks ago:
Russia’s President Vladimir Putin has a message for the White House and Democratic leaders who accuse him of stealing their victory: Don’t be sore losers. That was how Putin answered a question Friday about whether Russia interfered in the U.S. presidential election in favor of Donald Trump at the Russian leader’s nationally televised annual press conference
“Democrats are losing on every front and looking for people to blame everywhere,” Putin said in answer to a Russian TV host, one of 1,400 journalists accredited to the marathon session. “They need to learn to lose with dignity.” The Kremlin leader pointed out Republicans had won the House and Senate, remarking “Did we do that, too?”
Since John Wilkes Booth assassinated Abraham Lincoln just a few days after Lee’s surrender at Appomattox, losing with dignity has never been a hallmark of the Democrats. Rather than give up slavery, the Democrat-run South fired on Fort Sumter shortly after Lincoln’s first inauguration. Rather than admit defeat, they resisted Ulysses S. Grant’s attempts to bring full citizenship to the freed slaves, a moral crusade for which this most underrated of GOP presidents is given no credit by the racist Left. They created the Ku Klux Klan, instituted Jim Crow, forced Eisenhower to send federal troops to Little Rock, spied for the Soviet Union and routinely betrayed their country in the form of Alger Hiss and other traitors. Lincoln should have outlawed the party the minute the Civil War ended.
After a combined 16 years of Bill Clinton (impeached and disbarred by the Supreme Court) and the photogenic but sham presidency of Barack Obama, voters were heartily ready to give the Dems the old heave-ho — to the utter astonishment of the American media:
“Trump understood the mood of the people and kept going until the end, when nobody believed in him,” Putin said, adding with a grin. “Except for you and me.”
Putin has repeatedly denied involvement despite the accusations coming from the White House, and the Kremlin has repeatedly questioned the evidence for the U.S. claims. On Friday he borrowed from Trump’s dismissal of the accusations, remarking “Maybe it was someone lying on the couch who did it.”
“And it’s not important who did the hacking, it’s important that the information that was revealed was true, that is important,” Putin said, referring to the emails that showed that party leaders had favored Hillary Clinton.
They showed a lot more than that — they showed exactly how petty and venal the hierarchy of the Democrats really is, how much they despise the very folks they were trying to hoodwink into voting for a woman of no discernible talent or accomplishment, the wife of a former president who couldn’t even be bothered to campaign in the crucial Midwestern states that ultimately gave her the finger, and the White House to Donald Trump.
The Cold War effectively ended on — you can’t make this up — Christmas Day 1991, when the Soviet Union collapsed. It was the successful culmination of decades of bipartisan American foreign policy. Now the Democrats want to bring it back. Think about that the next time you’re tempted to vote for one of them.
