BREAKING: Man Wearing ‘Suicide Vest’ Packed With Gunpowder and Gasoline Yells ‘Allahu Akbar’ and Opens Fire in Spanish Supermarket.

On Wednesday, a gunman carrying gunpowder and gasoline in a “suicide vest” walked into a Mercadona supermarket in the As Lagoas region of Spain and opened fire, terrifying shoppers. The man reportedly yelled “Allahu Akbar,” an Islamic utterance for “God is Great,” as he launched his spontaneous attack.

The incident occurred at roughly 2 p.m. local time. Emergency crews and police rushed to the scene shortly after the shots were fired. No injuries or deaths have been reported.

Officer Carlos Perez was the first to arrive to the scene, according to Spanish news site La Region. The gunman fired live rounds at the policeman before security forces to provide backup.

After running out of bullets, the shooter unveiled a makeshift suicide vest. The vest was not believed to be active. As a result, police were able to apprehend the gunman safely.

Citing police sources, The Daily Mail reported “the young man has psychological problems and lives next-door to the shop.”

Unlike Germany and France, Spain has been relatively free from jihadist violence in recent years. The last major terrorist attack in Spain occurred in 2004 in the country’s capital of Madrid.

The Madrid train bombings resulted in the deaths of 191 victims and injured another 2,000. A Spanish judiciary found that the attack was directed by an al-Qaeda terrorist cell.
