Harvey said the transition teams of both President Obama and Trump reached out to him last week and that he believes Trump’s interest in bettering the urban community is genuine.

“He wants to do something. He realizes he needs some allies in that department,” Harvey said. “He seemed really sincere about it.”

Harvey said Trump called Dr. Ben Carson, his incoming nominee to be the next Secretary of Housing and Urban Development on the phone and asked Harvey to work with the retired neurosurgeon to resolve conflicts in the inner cities.

Harvey, who also hosts a syndicated daytime TV show, had a message for those who are critical of him meeting with the controversial president

“You don’t kill it with one conversation, but you can start it with a conversation,” he said.

The meeting was wide ranging, Harvey explained, covering not only policy issues, but everything from golf to Family Feud.

Harvey said Trump, who is a “big fan of the game show Harvey has hosted since 2010, lifted his spirits in light of the backlash he recently received for what many are claiming is a racist comment he made about Asian men.

“We laughed a bit,” Harvey said. “I ain’t been laughing that much the past few days. They’ve been beating me up on the Internet.”

Harvey said he has no interest in a political career.

“I ain’t going to pass a background check,” he quipped.
