THE CONVENTION OF STATES DECEPTION – A BRIEF SYNOPSIS

This is a brief synopsis regarding The Article V Convention of States movement (Con Con). Because it has been coming up in different circles as a positive effort, this author is compelled to expose it for what it really is. The Convention of States movement is a deception and a very dangerous movement! It is very dangerous because many trusted high profile conservatives have been deceived as to what this Convention of States movement really is. It has been sold to them as the solution to federal overreach, and as such it is preached their following. It in fact will be the destruction of the U.S. Constitution if it is allowed to succeed. It is imperative for all Americans to understand it fully. Citizens for Self Government is the organization which is peddling the movement around the country and is run by Mark Meckler, Michael Farris, and the Never-Trumper Eric O’Keefe. Mark Levin jumped in a few years ago to sell the movement as have many other conservatives without really understanding it. Many people’s mentality is that if a respected pundit star supports it, then it must be good!

The Convention of States movement claims something that is NOT in Article V of the U.S. Constitution. The proponents claim first of all that it is not a Constitutional Convention (Con Con) but rather a Convention of States. However it is in fact a Con Con. There is no other way to amend the U.S. Constitution except according to the provisions of Article V.

Another claim by it’s proponents is that “the States” call the convention and “the States” propose, debate and vote upon the amendments which are sent to the States for ratification… as stated in their documents. Article V of the Constitution says different! The second method for Amending the Constitution as described in Article V, commonly called the Convention Method, ONLY authorizes the States to “call the Convention”. It is the “Convention itself” which proposes the Amendments. This “Convention” is comprised of a “body of delegates”! It is NOT comprised of the States!!! The Convention decides what amendments get proposed, NOT the States! Where it gets really scary is that there are no parameters in Article V for how the Convention is to be organized or run. So it is open ended as to who become delegates, what rules are developed, and what amendments get proposed, no matter what the States say. There is nothing in Article V which gives the States any authority or direction as to how to conduct the Convention. Also, the Con Con opens up the “whole” Constitution for amending.

Following are links to talks from prominent, well respected Constitutional Scholars and legislators who explain the Convention of States deception in detail. They are Mark Bork, Dr Edwin Vieira Jr., Ph.D., Art Thompson, CEO of the John Birch Society and a group of State legislators.

Any State which has passed the application for the Con Con must rescind it. States which are considering the application must suspend its consideration.

To give some perspective: If people do not obey the 10 commandments, should they be amended? If the 10 commandments are amended, what will insure its obedience?

Food for thought…
