Gorka: McMaster Believes Islam Has Nothing To Do With Terror

Former White House senior staffer Sebastian Gorka criticized National Security Adviser H.R. McMaster for buying the Obama administration’s messaging on Islam.

Gorka stated in an interview with The Jerusalem Post on Sunday, that McMaster has a tendency to follow the exact same philosophy on Islam as the Obama administration did, namely by maintaining that the religion is separate from acts of terror occurring around the world.

For Gorka, McMaster “sees the threat of Islam through an Obama administration lens, meaning that religion has nothing to do with the war we are in.”

“He believes – and he told me in his office – that all of these people are just criminals. That is simply wrong,” Gorka added.

Gorka left the White House on Friday. It’s unclear whether he resigned or was fired. Gorka said he resigned, but the White House is claiming he was fired. Regardless, Gorka’s departure follows on the heels of White House Chief Strategist Steve Bannon leaving the administration. Gorka told The Jerusalem Post that after Bannon left, he didn’t see much of a future for himself.

“He was the person that I reported to directly,” Gorka said. “It had become clear to me with the pro-Trump individuals at NSC being fired, and being squeezed out of the policy- making process, that I too had a limited future in the White House as a strategist to the president.”

Gorka’s comments on McMaster’s understanding of Islam is consistent with past reports. The New York Times reported as early as February that McMaster informed NSC staff that the term “radical Islamic terrorism” was unhelpful. According to McMaster, these terrorists are “un-Islamic.”
