U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officially started construction on the border wall today in San Diego as eight wall prototypes are being built and are expected to be completed within the next 30 days.
Four of the wall prototypes will be made out of concrete while the other four will be made out of “alternate” materials, according to a statement from CBP.
“We are committed to securing our border and that includes constructing border walls. Our multi-pronged strategy to ensure the safety and security of the American people includes barriers, infrastructure, technology and people,” said Ronald Vitiello, acting deputy commissioner, U.S. Customs and Border Protection. “Moving forward with the prototypes enables us to continue to incorporate all the tools necessary to secure our border.”
The wall prototypes, designed to deter illegal border crossings, will all be 18-30 feet tall and “will likely continue to evolve” to meet the needs of the U.S. Border Patrol.
