DEVELOPING: Multiple People Dead In Manhattan Following Car Attack Near World Trade Center

NYPD Handout Given To The New York Post

The New York City Police Department (NYPD) confirmed that a suspect is in custody following a shooting in Lower Manhattan on Tuesday in which there were multiple reported injuries.

At least six people are dead and 15 more injured in what police initially called a “road rage incident” a few blocks away from the World Trade Center, NBC New York reported.

According to NBC News, “Senior law enforcement sources” are now indicating that the incident is being investigated and treated as “as a possible terrorist incident.”

“Police and witnesses say a motorist drove onto a busy bicycle path near the World Trade Center memorial and struck several people, then emerged from the vehicle screaming and firing something that appeared to be a gun,” the Associated Press reported.

Further reports from law enforcement officials state that the suspect shouted “Allahu Akbar” — a term often used during Islamic terrorist attacks.
