On Wednesday, the government of possibly the most anti-Semitic government on earth shocked the world by announcing that Jerusalem will never be the capital of Israel and the Jewish people.
According to the Iranian news agency Fars, the government of Iran passed a bill declaring Jerusalem forever as the capital of the non-existent country “Palestine” which “was approved within the framework of a double-urgency plan.” Predictably, there were 207 “yes” votes and no abstentions or opposition.
Despite the fact that Iran declared Jerusalem the capital of “Palestine,” the United Nations somehow missed the opportunity to pass, let alone offer, a resolution condemning the announcement. Last week, of course, the United Nations General Assembly adopted a resolution condemning the U.S. decision to recognize Jerusalem as Israel’s capital.
Iran’s history of vitriolic anti-Semitism since it was taken over by the mullahs in 1979 has featured Iranian president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad standing next to a banner reading “The World Without Zionism,” in October 2005, while boasting, “Our dear Imam ordered that the occupying regime in Al Quds be wiped off the face of the earth. Anyone who would recognize this state has put his signature under the defeat of the Islamic world.”
According to the Council of Iranian American Jewish Organizations (CIAJO), since 1979, 11 Jews have been executed, six have been assassinated by the government, two have died in custody, eight died under suspicious circumstances and 12 disappeared.
In 2006, Iran’s largest newspaper, Hamshahri, sponsored an international Holocaust cartoon contest looking for vitriolic anti-Semitic entries; the 2nd International Holocaust Cartoons Contest was held in Tehran in 2016. In 2004, the station Sahar 1 aired a weekly series called “Zahra’s Blue Eyes”; it depicted the Israeli government removing the blue eyes of Palestinian children for implantation into Jewish children.
