President Donald Trump will push for the death penalty for major drug dealers in his plan to combat the opioid crisis, Politico reports.
Trump publicly revealed his deeply held belief that drug dealers should be executed before the White House opioid summit saying “they kill hundreds and hundreds of people, and most of them don’t even go to jail. If you shoot one person, they give you life. They give you the death penalty.”
“These people can kill 2,000, 3,000 people and nothing happens to them. And we need strength with respect to the pushers and to the drug dealers,” he continued. “And if we don’t do that, you will never solve the problem.”
“The answer is you have to have strength and toughness. The drug dealers and the pushers are — they are doing damage. They are really doing damage. Some countries have a very, very tough penalty. The ultimate penalty.”
Trump’s plan will also crack down on government funds being used to subsidize opioid prescriptions and increasing the ease of access to addiction facilities for medicare users.
