The Witch Hunt Turns One

The Witch Hunt Turns One

The Witch Hunt Turns One

On Thursday, one year since the launch of the Mueller probe, U.S. District Judge T.S. Ellis received a copy of Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein’s previously withheld “scope memo.” Mueller’s team has been claiming secrecy over national security concerns but the judge wasn’t buying it. “C’mon man!” Ellis said. “We don’t want anyone with unfettered power.”

At this writing, the contents of the scope memo have yet to be revealed. On the other hand, the one-year anniversary calls for a box score, and CNN duly stepped up to the plate.

“The special counsel’s team has brought charges against 22 people and companies, notched five guilty pleas and seen one person sentenced. While a number of those charges were related to Russia’s interference in the 2016 presidential election, so far none of them has extended to potential collusion between the Russian government and Trump associates.” So on the basic mission, Mueller has no hits, but wait just a minute.

“The mandate also allowed Mueller to look into any areas that may arise from the investigation,” CNN claims. “So the probe expanded to include an offshoot investigation into whether the President has tried to obstruct justice.” So the former FBI boss is swinging a big bat, and it’s not exactly a new game.

Mueller was named to head the FBI one week before the Sept. 11, 2001 terror attacks and then spent, count ‘em, 12 years as FBI boss, second only to J. Edgar Hoover. Mueller set out to restore the reputation of the FBI but didn’t exactly pull it off.

On Mueller’s watch the FBI was tracking the communications of Army Major Nidal Hasan with terrorist Anwar al-Awlaki. Mueller’s FBI knew the two were plotting to kill Americans but did nothing to stop Nidal from murdering 13 unarmed American soldiers at Fort Hood in 2009.

POTUS 44 called the whole thing “workplace violence” and the FBI chief was fine with that. When reporters asked if the FBI had dropped the ball by failing to act, Mueller said, “No. I think, given the context of the discussions and the situation that the agents and the analysts were looking at, they took appropriate steps.”

This failed to emerge when Mueller was being touted as a man of great integrity and the perfect choice to investigate Russian influence. As the Washington Post notes, 13 of the 17 members of Mueller’s team had previously registered as Democrats and nine of the 17 made political donations to Democrats, their contributions totaling more than $57,000. Six donated to Hillary Clinton, Trump’s opponent in the 2016 race.

Mueller team member James Quarles donated almost $33,000 to Democrats, including Hillary Clinton. Jeannie Rhee donated more than $16,000 to Democrats since 2008, including the maximum allowable donation to Hillary Clinton in 2015 and 2016. Mueller team member Andrew Weissman donated $4,000 to the Democrats’ 2008 candidate and $2,000 to the DNC in 2006. Elizabeth Prelogar was also a Clinton donor in 2016.

A ballpark figure for the number of partisan Democrats and Clinton donors on Mueller’s team should be zero. Instead he brought aboard Hillary’s fan club and anti-Trump bigots such as Peter Strzok and Lisa Page. Herr Mueller thus eliminated any need to take the probe seriously. That was also true of the mission.

It had evidently escaped notice that Russia intervened in U.S. elections by running their own candidates in the Communist Party USA. In 1976, John Brennan voted for the Stalinist Gus Hall for president rather than Democrat Jimmy Carter. Brennan went on to head the mighty Central Intelligence Agency, and he is now the loudest barker in anti-Trump chorus.

It had also escaped notice that, as Secretary of State, former First Lady Hillary Clinton gave the Russians virtually everything they wanted. She authorized an intrusive missile inspection agreement and through the Clinton foundation contrived to put U.S. uranium in Russian hands. So it is absurd to charge that Putin hates Hillary and loves Trump.

As CNN notes, Mueller has found no collusion. With the scope memo hidden, the people’s representatives can be forgiven for believing that Mueller is wielding unfettered power for partisan ends.

“Congratulations America,” President Trump tweeted Thursday, “we are now into the second year of the greatest Witch Hunt in American History…and there is still No Collusion and No Obstruction. The only Collusion was that done by Democrats who were unable to win an Election despite the spending of far more money!” The president has a point, but he actually understates the matter.

The Mueller probe is cover for a coup against a duly elected president. As Michael Walsh notes, this was “an intelligence operation from the start, engineered by Barack Obama, James Clapper, John Brennan, Loretta Lynch, leading Democrats, rogue Republicans, and using a deeply partisan and thus compromised media as its vengeful Greek chorus.”

As Justice Oliver Wendell Holmes put it, “three generations of imbeciles are enough.” Twelve years is too long for anybody to run the FBI, and one year is more than enough for a bogus probe that never should have launched in the first place.

Mueller should write a book about all those spies and terrorists the FBI let get away. C’mon man, let Trump be Trump.
