This is the heart-stopping moment an overtaking BMW spins out of control on a motorway after aquaplaning.

The incident happened yesterday on the M62 towards Manchester during torrential downpours.

A shop assistant from Huddersfield captured the moment on his dashcam as he was driving on the motorway at around 9am.

This is the heart-stopping moment an overtaking BMW spins out of control on a motorway after aquaplaning. The incident happened yesterday on the M62 towards Manchester during  torrential downpours

The video shows the dashcam motorist driving at about 50mph as roadside signs warn of the surface water on the roads.

All of a sudden, a black BMW overtakes from the right-hand lane at a significant speed considering the conditions.

A large amount of water sprays up the wheels as it zooms forward.

The car then indicates to take over another car but at the same time appears to hit surface water and spin out of control.

It moves towards the central reservation before spinning back on itself across the four lanes of the motorway.

Fortunately, no other cars were near the BMW at the time.

A shop assistant from Huddersfield captured the moment on his dashcam as he was driving on the motorway at around 9am. The BMW ended up spinning across all four lanes on the motorway before ending up facing the correct way again on the hard shoulder

The dashcam driver, who wishes to remain anonymous, said: ‘It was very heavy rain and thick fog on the road at that time.

‘The BMW just overtook me at speed and I believe they hit a surface water on the motorway and lost control.

‘Thank God all three lanes were clear at that time. And I was the one right behind them.

‘As you can see from video I couldn’t have hit my breaks suddenly because of wet road. I reduced my speed gently and so had the lucky escape.

‘I just thought, “Thank God, no-one was hurt”.

‘I would just say be careful when driving in wet conditions. Don’t assume you can drive fast and control the vehicle.’
