Naomie Harris has revealed she was sexually assaulted by a famous actor during an audition in her mid-20s.

The actress, 43, said the ‘shocking’ incident took place in front of both the movie’s director and casting director, but claimed they failed to intervene because the actor ‘was and is a huge star’.

The Skyfall star explained in an interview with The Guardian newspaper on Friday: ‘I was in an audition and he put his hand up my skirt.

‘It was shocking’: Naomie Harris (pictured last month) has revealed she was sexually assaulted by a famous actor during an audition in her mid-20s

‘What was so shocking about it was the casting director was there and the director, and of course no one said anything at all because he was – he is – such a huge star.’

The candid remarks from the famously private star followed a 2017 interview with The Times in which she had said she had never experienced racism or sexism in the movie industry.

Harris also explained to the publication her belief that her Cambridge education has largely protected her from the misogyny faced by other female stars working in film.

The actress graduated from the prestigious university in 1998 with a degree in social and political sciences.

Young: The actress, 43, said the assault took place in front of the film’s director. Above: Harris aged 28 in 2004 film After The Sunset (there’s no suggestion the assault was linked to this film)

She added: ‘I think there is the immediate assumption that you have a brain. Which is not necessarily true if you go to Oxbridge, as I’ve discovered.’

The Bond star – who will return to the franchise next year alongside Daniel Craig in No Time To Die – also revealed she nearly quit acting following her Oscar-nominated portrayal of a crack addict in 2017 film Moonlight.

Harris explained she told her agent not to send her any further scripts because she was ‘completely burned out’ and ‘needed a break’.

The star even briefly considered opening a nail salon because she did not ‘want to be an actress any more’.

A month-long yoga and meditation retreat in India changed her mind and so she is set to star as the lead role in upcoming action thriller, Black and Blue.

Change: The Skyfall star’s latest interview comes after she warned fans to expect a radically different James Bond when the franchise returns (pictured with Daniel Craig in 2012)

Her latest interview comes after Harris warned fans to expect a radically different James Bond when the franchise returns with its 25th installment.

Reflecting on the new film, Naomie told GQ Hype earlier this week: ‘It’s a tie-up of Skyfall and Spectre. But with massive, massive surprises that even had me like, “Oh, wow!” So I think we’re going to really shock people.

‘I would say that he’s reconnected with his heart. We’re definitely seeing a Bond who’s more in touch with his feelings and more open to falling in love.’

The film brings to an end a five-year wait for more Bond, during which Craig’s future involvement in the franchise remained unresolved.

Brought to the brink: The Layer Cake star also revealed she nearly quit acting following her oscar-nominated portrayal as a crack addict in 2017 film Moonlight (pictured)
