Will Conor McGregor Fight At UFC 249 Against Tony Ferguson? His Coach Appears To Hint At It On Twitter

It sounds like Conor McGregor could be in the mix to fight Tony Ferguson in April.

Ferguson had been slated to fight Khabib Nurmagomedov at UFC 249, but the Russian fighting superstar is out because of home country being on coronavirus lockdown. That means somebody has to fill the spot for the fight to go through. (RELATED: David Hookstead Is The True King In The North When It Comes To College Football)

McGregor’s coach John Kavanagh appeared to hint that the Irish-born star could be an option for UFC 249 April 18.

In response to a poll from Ariel Helwani asking what Ferguson should do about Khabib not being available, Kavanagh tweeted back, “maybe there’s a third option…”

Given how desperate sports fans are for anything to entertain us, McGregor returning to the octagon to break the sports fast would be beyond words.

People would lose their minds of McGregor stepped into the octagon April 18 against Tony Ferguson. It would literally break the sports world.

It just wouldn’t dominate the news cycle. It would be 100% of the news cycle when it comes to sports.

Of course, there’s no guarantee at all that this happens. We don’t even know if UFC 249 will officially happen.

Dana White seems hellbent on making sure it does, but coronavirus has thrown everything into absolute chaos. All bets are off right now.

However, if McGregor does fight in April when sports are still dead, it might be the most watched event of 2020 outside of the Super Bowl.

That’s how desperate people are. There aren’t any guarantees, but I’m officially all in on this idea. Make it happen, Dana!
