A 96-year-old Chicago woman was stabbed to death Tuesday and another woman was seriously injured after a man got in an altercation with the pair on a Gresham neighborhood sidewalk, reported the Chicago Sun-Times.

The man reportedly used a pitchfork to attack them during the confrontation on South Laflin Street, killing the elderly woman, Myrtis Jackson. The Cook County medical examiner’s office stated that Jackson was pronounced dead at the University of Chicago Medical Center, according to the Chicago Sun-Times.

Dujuan Randle, 41, was charged with first-degree murder for the stabbing and is currently in police custody, reported WGN. Police say he has a history of mental illness, according to CBS Chicago. (RELATED: ‘It Will Shatter Your Soul’: Six Children Killed In Chicago In Single Week)
