An uninhabited island of your own is selling for a song — but getting there’s a bit tricky.
The Barlocco Island, located off the southern coast of Scotland and six miles from the nearest town, is on sale for about $190,000.
The lush green island, which stretches for about 25 acres, has no homes or buildings on it but boasts a pebble beach and a flood pond where rainwater gathers for wildlife during the winter months.
For a US buyer to get to the island, they’d need to fly to Glasgow and take a two-hour drive to the nearest town, Gatehouse of Fleet.
From there, it would be a six-mile boat ride to Barlocco, though the island can also be accessed during low tide by an all-terrain vehicle or on foot over a rock path.
The trip isn’t a breeze for locals either — the nearest train station in Dumfries is about an hour’s bus ride from Gatehouse of Fleet.
Aaron Edgar, the agent handling the sale for the Galbraith Group, said he’s optimistic about buyers interested in the land, which stands as the westernmost island of the Isles of Fleet.
“There’s still a very romantic sentiment attached to owning your very own Scottish private island, where you can escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life and enjoy some peace and tranquility in the most beautiful scenery around.”
David Corrie, another one of the listing agents, noted that buyers would likely find it difficult to build or live on the small island since the land is designated a “Site of Special Scientific Interest” for its flora, fauna and natural landforms.
The islands in the area are also considered havens for wildlife, including the black-backed gulls and rare plants — like the fragrant orchid.
“It will significantly limit the possibility of obtaining permission to construct any permanent structure or dwelling,” agent David Corrie told the New York Times. “The only possibility for anyone wishing to stay on the island for any period of time would be off-grid solutions, such as solar power.”
No one has ever applied for permission to build anything on the island, according to the listing.
Despite challenges that would come with doing anything with the island, the agents have said they’ve already gotten a number of offers since the listing went up.
“We have witnessed strong demand from domestic and international parties for entire private islands having handled the sale of several in Scotland,” Edgar said
The firm previously handled the sale of the 29-acre Little Ross Island for more than $400,000 in 2017.
