Reverend Rafael Cruz, father of U.S. Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX), spoke before the 2014 Watchmen on the Wall’s National Pastor Briefing. When asked what the major problems facing American pastors today are, he said that, more and more, the church is under attack in America.
“When children in school cannot, even in their free time, pray to their God, we have a problem with freedom of religion, which is guaranteed under the First Amendment of the Constitution,” he said. “And so, pastors need to speak out. Pastors need to be light to a society that is in darkness. And if the pastors should be the shepherds, they’re supposed to be leading the sheep.”
He says religious leaders need to overcome their fear of being silenced by the government and lead their congregations.
