Obama spoke today to the nation about the awful downing of a commercial airline in Ukraine by Russia’s subordinates. In his talk our President expressed his outrage, and after enumerating what is known about the people responsible for this crime, called for further investigation. It brought memories of the very funny scene in Peter Sellers movie “A shot in the dark”, when Peter Sellers as inspector Clouseau investigates a case where murder follows murder, and beautiful Maria is the obvious suspect; but the bumbling Inspector drives his boss mad by seeing her as plainly innocent.
After our government has publicly elaborated that the plane was shot down by a missile, the type and range of the missile, the fact that it was fired from areas controlled by Russian backed separatists, that they are known to have these armament, that they have shot, and acknowledged, other planes in recent days, that they boasted in twitter the action before realizing that it was a commercial plane, our President tells us that we have to investigate the facts further before reaching a conclusion.
At least Peter Sellers Inspector Clouseau was funny, and the movie was fiction!
