Bernie Sanders clashed with Hillary Clinton on gun control during Tuesday’s Democratic debate, telling the former secretary of state that her anti-gun rhetoric wouldn’t do anything to stop future mass shootings.

The remark from Sanders came after he was grilled by moderator Anderson Cooper for being holding a more conservative view on guns than his rivals.

Despite touting his D- rating from the NRA, Clinton said the Vermont senator was “not at all” tough enough on guns. She then contended stricter gun control should be implemented.

Sanders hit back hard.

“As a senator from a rural state — What I can tell Secretary Clinton is that all the shouting in the world is not going to do what I would hope all of us want: and that is keep guns out of the hands of people who should not have those guns and end this horrible violence that we are seeing,” he said.

Sanders argued that “there is a consensus” to strengthen instant background checks and eliminate the so-called gun show loophole. He said the implementation of such policies would help decrease gun violence.
