With job in jeopardy, Sessions opens HUGE investigation

In recent days, Attorney General Jeff Sessions has heard nothing but rumors of his job being in danger. In a New York Times interview, President Trump expressed frustration with Sessions’ decision to recuse himself from the Russia investigation. From there, Trump doubled-down on the comments, continuing to criticize the embattled Attorney General.

Speculation on Sessions’ fate reached a new high amid separate reports that Trump was already considering replacements. On Monday, sources reported that Trump had been discussing the possibility of tapping Rudy Guiliani to replace Sessions. A new name entered the mix on Tuesday, when reports circulated that Trump was also considering Ted Cruz for the job.

However, Sessions has vowed to stay on the job as long as the president wants. Undeterred by the speculation, a new report indicates Sessions may be readying to launch a new investigation.

Attorney General Jeff Sessions will soon announce several criminal leak investigations, Fox News has learned.

A U.S. official familiar with the discussions said Tuesday that the planned announcement surrounding stepped-up efforts on leak investigations has “been in the works for some time and will most likely happen sometime in the next week.”

In the first few months of Trump’s presidency, leaks to the media have plagued the administration. In opening the probe, the Justice Department is attempting to crack down on the problem:

The investigations will look at news reports that publicized sensitive intelligence material, according to officials who have been briefed on the matter.

The move is a welcome one, as leaks designed to damage the administration have likely done immeasurable damage to national security. The longer leakers go unpunished, the more likely others are to follow their lead. Until now, not much has been done to put a stop to careless flow of information.

In his criticism of Sessions, Trump expressed dismay that the Justice Department had not done more to stop the leaks. With his job on the line, Sessions appears to have finally taken decisive action. However, he may not be in his position long enough to see the investigation to its conclusion.
