Email dump uncovers new dirt on Mayor de Blasio he’d rather keep hidden

Some new emails have been unearthed involving New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio — and it doesn’t look good for him.

The New York Post obtained the messages last Friday as part of a Freedom of Information request.

Dennis Michael Lynch reports:

The Post reported on a portion of the emails Friday evening, revealing that two major donors to de Blasio’s campaign, who had later been accused of corruption and who de Blasio has claimed he barely knew, actually were quite cozy with the City Hall and the mayor.

In one email, sent directly to Mayor de Blasio on April 28, 2014, Jon Rechnitz, who later pleaded guilty to donating money in exchange for special treatment, requested to serve on a committee to “combat police corruption.”

Another email exchange revealed a huge special favor, when Rechnitz’s associate, Jeremy Reichberg, asked the first deputy mayor’s chief of staff for a $650,000 water bill on a Brooklyn building to be reduced. The Post reported that mayoral spokesman Eric Phillips admitted Friday that the bill was reduced to $125,304 “because of a meter defect.”

The Post stated that Reichberg donated $4,950 and bundled another $41,650, all for de Blasio’s campaign.

Additional details revealed that Rechnitz emailed the mayor frequently, communicating with him on both personal and business matters and requesting favors. Rechnitz donated $50,000 to de Blasio’s nonprofit, Campaign for One New York, another $102,300 toward de Blasio’s failed efforts to help Democrats win the Senate in 2014, and he and his wife both gave the maximum allowed – $9,900 – to de Blasio’s 2013 mayoral campaign.

Some of the emails obtained indicate that de Blasio bullies his staff and threatens them with severe punishment if they fail him.

A City Hall insider claimed that de Blasio is “condescending and arrogant,” and goes on to say, “I’ve been in plenty of meetings with him. He’s known to kick staff out of meetings.”

Sounds like a real sweetheart, doesn’t he?

Apparently, the best way to get to really know your elected officials is by getting a sneak peak at their “secret” emails, where they seem to let it all hang out, blemishes and all.

Will anyone really be all that surprised to hear of de Blasio’s cruelty, particularly given the fact he skipped out on honoring a fallen police officer for the sake of trashing our president in Germany?

Doubtful.
