A new poll from the University of California, Berkeley, shows that the majority of Democratic California voters now oppose free speech.
The poll, which describes Democratic voters in the state as âespeciallyâ having a hard time âgrappling with the complex issue,â found that 53% of Californiaâs Democratic voters now oppose free speech.
The political ideology which most opposed free speech were those who identified themselves as âliberal,â with nearly 60% indicating that free speech demonstrations have gone too far.
Mark DiCamillo, who conducted the poll for the universityâs Institute of Governmental Studies, was stunned by the results.
âI would have thought the liberals would be defending the right to demonstrate in general,â said DiCamillo.
Jan Soule, president of the Silicon Valley Association of Republican Women, noted the hypocrisy of the political Left and what is at stake when it comes to free speech.
âThe Left has always been hypocritical,â said Soule. âThey continue to say we have free speech as long as we agree with what they say. Free speech does not extend to conservatives.â
Jewell Taylor, a Democrat, immediately reinforced Souleâs statement when he proved her point.
âFreedom of speech is good, but it all depends on what youâre speaking about,â said Taylor. âI believe in making things better, and making things better is not sitting there and rallying about things that happened 100 years ago.â
The poll seemed to confirm the effectiveness of the Democratâs use of identity politics and “divide and conquer” tactics in achieving party goals as the majority of all non-white racial groups believe that âwhite nationalistsâ currently have too much free speech freedom.
âBroken down by race and ethnicity, the only group where most believe white nationalistsâ right to demonstrate shouldnât be restricted is non-Hispanic whites â 52%,â Mercury News noted. âA majority of Asian-Americans (59%), African-Americans (58%) and Latinos (51%) said white nationalists have not been restricted enough.â
The poll was released as conservative media icon Ben Shapiro prepares to speak at UC Berkeley on Thursday, an event so highly anticipated that tickets sold out in 45 minutes.
